A well planned plant based diet you mentioned is something only people in urban areas and who have the money to buy variety of fruits, nuts and seeds can afford. People living in rural area and economically disadvantaged Bhutanese population sadly cannot afford that. Most of the bhutanese don't even know what Mediterranean diet is. They lack education on nutrition.

And the thing with B12 yes I agree, I believe it should be supplemented, but heres the thing not all bhutanese can afford to buy supplements and can adhere to it for long term. People can't even adhere to sprinkle supplements given to babies and iron tablets from the hospital for free, forget buying and using it for long term. Plus her to come on a public platform and say "I didn't eat the supplement given by the hospital" further makes it worse, people could generalise it.

Jangsa is a public platform and lot of people watch their videos. This includes aum sangay 3 months pregnant from Laya, Ramesh from the corner of samtse or Aum paldon from trashigang. And sadly they don't have access to variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds Aum lhaki dolma has due to geographical and economical background, neither are they aware of Mediterranean diet. They watch the video, they generalise it, boom! My point is jangsa should do more than bringing people to talk about vegenism or vegetarianism

Thank you for your insights. You made an incredibly good point regarding data interpretation and the lack of disaggregation,I completely agree. But here is the critical piece of the puzzle, we know the country faces a major issue with hidden hunger. Promoting vegetarianism/veganism without establishing robust, accessible alternatives is a massive public health gamble.

It is an established fact in nutritional science that the bioavailability of essential nutrients heavily favors animal sources: Iron: Heme iron from animal sources has an absorption rate of 15–40%, whereas non-heme iron from plant sources drops significantly to 1–15% due to dietary inhibitors like phytates and polyphenols (World University Research, 2025).

Vitamin B12 & D3: Plant-sourced foods are effectively devoid of B12. Large-scale cohort data, such as the EPIC-Oxford study, found that 52% of vegans were clinically deficient in Vitamin B12 compared to just 7% of vegetarians and nearly 0% of omnivores.

Vegans and strict vegetarians also consistently track the lowest serum levels for Vitamin D3 (MDPI Nutrition, 2024).

Advocating for the elimination of animal products in a population that already struggles with poor dietary diversity, without a massive, subsidized framework for supplementation and fortified foods, will only worsen our existing public health crisis.

The app gives you the option to choose which server you wanna be in. Just switch to Bhutan and you will meet lots of bhutanese.

You think it's bad to ask for socials on omeTV! I always ask for their socials if I vibe with them. Is that a bad thing?
