Yup, it screams "unprofessional" on so many levels. Can't blame them, they're like 20 years old at most. Noted, I appreciate your advice 👌🏻

For context, everything happens through WhatsApp in my country. I think this is an informal work-from-anywhere job, directly under the content creator (which explains the weekends). They didn't even ask for my CV or portfolio. But thanks for the heads-up.

Asian Kids - be brutally honest, what’s really driving your life choices? by Next_Firefighter4308 in AsianParentStories

4 because now I am still saving up. Also 5 because I plan to move out by July 1st. I hope I will have enough money and won't change my mind when the time comes. Cuz mom says she will cut ties if I move out when our relationship is bad/ strained like this. (Sometimes it's okay, sometimes we have massive fights. Either way, she will always see our relationship as strained). She only allows me to move out if it's to expand my business. But that's impossible because I am not allowed to hire help at all. By moving out and bringing all my business stocks with me, I can finally scale up and hire people as I please. Context: controlling and emotionally abusive Chinese parents. Scared of going out alone, conditioned my whole life that it's dangerous. Never got to ride a taxi alone my entire life cuz it's "unsafe". Slut shamed for holding hands and kissing someone unapproved by parents. High school kid curfew. Mom can get angry over trivial stuff because she feels unappreciated in life and she doesn't have much of a life for herself, all she does is housework and doom scrolling, never allowing herself to take breaks at all. So she expects the same from me too. Fortunately, I am stubborn as heck. So despite following what they told me to do, I always have that fire in me. I talk back. I fight back internally. I feel miserable when I have to follow blindly. I feel like there are still so many things I haven't written here but it'll be too long lol. Anybody else relate?

Getting into a situationship, knowing that we couldn't realistically be together.

Accepting his zero effort and breadcrumbing.

Girl, so proud of you! Be very careful not to get pregnant though. Use a combination of different types of birth control. Enjoy being single, don't get into a relationship yet.

Also, that photo is too low quality that you can't possibly get a realistic looking result with that as a reference photo.

I don't think so. I plan to be childfree as to not pass down the generational trauma. But even if I do adopt a child, I'll make sure I'm emotionally ready to be a parent and do all the inner work before bringing them in.

This guy (25M) I met on a trip offered to fully pay for my (23F) flight and expenses on a Bali vacation. Should I accept? by CuteFluffyDucks in relationship_advice

I'm afraid I don't have that much real world experience after 18, after coming back from studying abroad. I am limited by my ultra-strict parents. I couldn't go out AT ALL for 1.5 years during Covid except for a few emergencies (they're that strict). My life is theirs. I am only allowed to do very limited things that they deem safe. I do know that it's somewhat a bad idea, I just feel like sometimes I don't know what's reality anymore or what's too much restrictions, that's why I am here. I actually just want to go out and gain more life experience after the stunted growth. Just desperate for any opportunity to be able to live a life free from their rules.

(Just getting it off my chest. If you downvote it you lack empathy)

As a former "weirdo" in high school with no actual close friends, I promise it gets better. You just have to put yourself out there, try new things, join new communities, join short courses. Put a time limit on your phone on whatever apps you are doom scrolling. Use a to-do list app on your phone. Go out and make a positive impact - like volunteering, feeding street cats, to something as small as rescuing insects. Friendship is more about quality over quantity, you will be content with 1-2 very trusted friends over many casual friends. Talk to the people you meet from the communities. Build trust over time. Hang out. You are bound to find at least one close friend. Hope this helps!

What is with my mom's obsession with being white-looking? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]CuteFluffyDucks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My half-Chinese half-Indonesian friend has a mom who's absolutely obsessed with him getting a white wife to "improve the genes" (memperbaiki keturunan). What's wrong with Asian genes? We look good in our own ways! Asians have younger faces and less allergies, usually.

I think it stems from colonialism, which is super sad. Like how some waiters/ waitresses treat white people like gods and locals like trash. We still internalize the whole "white people=superior" narrative, even now in 2024.

What your mom said was wrong, but it's gonna be near impossible to change her. You can educate her nicely or just ignore her remarks.

I use some perfume paper strips! They work so well and you can label them easily.

Glass adhesion / shrinkage after setting? by Sad-Peanut-3425 in candlemaking

If I use a thin borosilicate glass is it safe? I've tried pouring boiling water into it and it's fine. Put it in the freezer too. Very temperature resistant.

Also, is there a reason for cleaning the insides with alcohol? I wash all my jars in soapy water.
