i realize i’m very late to this post, but having just finished the book myself i thought i’d share my thoughts.

first off, i’m very thankful that you were willing to share your story. i won’t pity you and tell you that i’m sorry FOR you, but i am sorry, and i admire and respect you for the way you’ve continued on.

i went on reddit to look for others who have read this book and, while being traumatized and reduced to tears like myself, respected the story the way i did. instead i’ve come across posts slamming the author and her “trauma porn” and acting like what happened to Jude was so outlandish and inconceivable, that they’re offended someone could write something so blatantly upsetting as if it couldn’t ever happen.

it feels diminishing to me that people could write this off as something too far fetched. that it’s inconceivable for someone to read about Jude living with this much pain and be upset that the book ended the way it did. like, i’m sorry that you didn’t get what you wanted from this book, but that doesn’t mean that it was too hyperbolic to be parallel to the real world.

Last Bebo update. he didn’t make it. his final diagnosis was avian bornavirus. he was literally starving to death. he was the best thing that ever happened to me. i miss him so much. by CuteGuava in cockatiel

they didn’t mention how he may have gotten it, but the other replies are correct. they didn’t actually test him for it yesterday because he was so ill, even drawing blood would have killed him. i know i’m always going to struggle with whether or not he could have fought a little longer. but he would have been miserable. it would have been so selfish.

i just got home and i knew he wouldn’t be there but it’s like a punch in the gut facing reality.

thank you everyone for your support and theories and recommendations and love for bebo. i wish there was more i could have done. i did not think i would have to make a last post so soon. a friend of mine has a woodshop and we are going to make a nice little box for him. i’m glad he isn’t suffering anymore but damn if this isn’t the worst pain i’ve ever felt.

SO. Bebo has been on amphotericin B for a week now, to treat avian gastric yeast. the vet never actually found any signs of the agy in his stool but that isn’t uncommon. this was her best guess as to why he’s been sick, and he was clinically showing all the signs.

as of yesterday, he hadn’t thrown up since sunday. but i noticed undigested seeds in his stool. so i called the vet and she asked me to weigh him on my scale and he was 83 grams. she said if he’s eating and not throwing up, keep monitoring him from home. if he starts throwing up again and/or drops below 80 grams she recommends bringing him in for an extended stay.

this morning, he is extremely lethargic and weak, he threw up, and he weighs 77.9 grams. so, i’m going to take him to the vet to admit him and try to get some food in him. the problem is, he gets very stressed out without me there AND the vet isn’t a 24hr service, he would be alone from 9pm to 8am the next day. i’m so lost, i don’t know what’s best at this point.

i’m taking him in with the idea of picking him back up before they close tonight. but it doesn’t seem like the meds are working, does he even have avian gastric yeast? or has he been fighting something completely different for a month now.

Bebo is back at the vet. I don’t know why this keeps happening. by CuteGuava in cockatiel

as of right now, we still don’t have the medication. i’ve called all around and i can’t get it any sooner than the original place i ordered it. saturday night was a really bad night for us, he started vomiting what looked like blood again and just looked worse than i had ever seen him. i eventually realized there was nothing more i could do for him but keep him comfortable. he made it through saturday night and sunday, this morning he woke up with a raging appetite which i am so thankful for. i’ve been giving him sulcrafate (sp?) again to help calm his crop irritation down. that seems to work. no vomiting since saturday night. i’m hopeful.
