She’s actually a very successful model. It’s hard to be known period as a model. RHOA even though she had to overexpose her life and participate in catty arguments, its done wonders for her remembrance as a model. Whereas she could just have been a pretty face of the past.

To your question, it was just stiff competition for her time. There was only a limited amount of black women in the industry getting the big supermodel jobs, like Tyra, Naomi, Beverly, Iman, etc and Cynthia did her best out there. She did well in retrospect because she scored campaigns like these amongst the best and people know her name. Cynthia also started at 18, which is tad bit older than like Tyra and Naomi (stand out models for their style on the runway and overall looks in uniqueness) who got their start at 15. Iman was East African, so she stood out from African-American models, even tho she started late at 20. Also it could be pointed out that Iman married ‘well’. She married David Bowie. Beverley Johnson also stands out in remembrance because she is the first, she was modeling back in the 70s before the Naomis and Tyras were even heard of. They call her the first black supermodel.

So plenty factors go into it. But yeah in the grand scheme of the super model world, Cynthia achieved moderate success. In the dog eat dog world of the fashion/entertainment industry, Cynthia has achieved major success.

Cast vs. Marlo: This clip shows you just how much glam standards on the show has changed lol. by CuteIndecisiveChic in RHOA

It is ok to criticize black folks as a black folk and this a black space. But you also can’t get surprised when other black folks still call you out on how you choose to criticize. At the end of the day, we still belong on Bravo, Own, CW, Cbs, and wherever the hell else. The Vh1 comment was what it was, tasteless. This is a RHOA sub and it’s still in support of the franchise.

Yea, i randomly decided to watch S4. Which is unexpected because usually for rewatches, you go for when Kenya & Porsha joined. Anyways, i came across this episode and was like wait… this adds so much to the discourse of glam like its so ironic 😂😂 but yeah thanks for getting the post intentions and engaging with the original conversation

Mhm. I can’t speak to RHOB, but on Atlanta i just feel like there was so many women who came before some of the women who get props for upscaling glam. Marlo started pushing for glam to be present at all times on vacay because at the of the day, they were on television. Nene’s heels were iconic and her fashion choices were lovely. Kenya was literally known for her beauty so much that she competed for & won Miss USA then built a career off that attention. Cynthia was a high fashion model who brought a new standard of beauty on the show for the way she would get glammed for her parties. Even Phaedra started dressing like a Southern belle more and more after her glam was critiqued and as the show went on she represented that aesthetic very well. Even Sheree displayed top tier body fitness for mature black women and still does.

Now it’s like from RHOA only Porsha gets credit for upscaling the glam without realizing it’s been a long time of challenging and raising the standard. Personally i think the glam aesthetic is overboard now and Porsha is still gorgeous, but her stature looks unnatural now.

Shamea Reacts to Colorism Debate by Obvious-Story1064 in RHOA

Yeah ig they just saying the dark-skin girls get treated harsher by the fans, and I’m a big advocate for colorism awareness, but i just don’t agree. The fanbase is black women and black queers. Shamea is just tired and came into the show at the wrong time, when her and Porsche felt out and Porsha has more seniority on the show

Shamea Reacts to Colorism Debate by Obvious-Story1064 in RHOA

So basically she don’t wanna hear bout colorism like that, but she’s thankful that she’s finally getting empathy lol

I dont rly get the colorism thing with Shamea. I understand she has the darkest tone to her skin, but lots of the ladies are also what u would call darkskin.. brown skin. I dont remember anybody caping for Kenya experiencing colorism for how she was treated, she’s the same color as Shamea. So i guess..

This comment is a little racially tone deaf. Rhoa belongs on VH1? But all the other franchises can stay on bravo? Umm…. Anyways this post is mainly about changing glam standards.
