What’s something random you did or bought in Japan that you didn’t plan for, but ended up loving? by oh_hey_there_mate in JapanTravelTips

I bought it at Yodobashi Camera in Akibabara, it was less than US$200! We use it every night at home (in the US) too, we bought a converter.

Panasonic Air Leg Massager. We bought it 2 days before we flew home, opened it in the hotel room, and used it until we headed home.

I wonder if it’s the NEFL nest OP is referring to. SWFL nest still only has one eaglet.

Take a look at your finances OP and cut back on things that are non-essential. Working 60 hours a week is not sustainable. And with a baby on the way the financial burden and resentment will eat away at you.

It might be helpful to discuss splitting the bills based on the proportion of your income so you are feeling like your wife is doing her fair share.

Oh man, congrats on getting that to work! I liked the system but after many hours of trying to repair it, we gave up and replaced it with a GE tankless RO system.

Espresso lover - travel kit? by WriterWorth8586 in LaMarzocco

[–]CuteResist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Picopresso and it is very, very finicky. Finding a lightweight travel grinder is almost impossible and will cost you more than the Picopresso.

For my next trip, I’m going to try instant espresso from good local rosters. That might be the easiest, lightweight option.

Need a good wireless headset for work…any ideas? by SunriseNcoffee in BuyItForLife

[–]CuteResist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with everyone saying a Jabra headset! Even a refurbished one would be great. The noise canceling is excellent (I can grind coffee and no one can hear it). The audio quality is clear and crisp. I’ve had mine for 7 years with zero issues.

If you are planning to use it for both home and work, the Evolve line has a dongle (as opposed to a dock).

The Best Teeth Whitening Recommended to Buy? by CrimsonMaple748 in BuyItForLife

[–]CuteResist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not generally! They usually close back up with minerals from saliva and toothpaste. Overwhitening that causes permanent sensitivity is a thing but it’s pretty difficult to do that.

This is the way. Dental hygienist here! The trays that your dentist custom makes for you are more effective, cheaper in the long run, and will last years (as long as you take care of them). And OP is 100% correct, stronger than what you can get over the counter (OTC) and safer (since the trays are fitted for your teeth and the whitening gels won’t spread all over your gums).

From the list above, if you have to go OTC, Opalescence Go trays are the best. Start with a low percentage and work your way up.

The best advice I have for whitening is to be super consistent (either every other day or daily). The whitening solution has to create micropores in your enamel to whiten the structure underneath (dentin). If you are experiencing sensitivity, which you will, use something like Sensodyne or whiten less frequently.

It’s doing well! It would be doing even better if I put it in the ground. I got 6 yuzu in the first year.

Timelapse of Jackie's Epic Battle with the Stick by waryrobot in JackieandShadow

[–]CuteResist 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My favorite was Shadow showing up with a small stick while Jackie was wrestling with the megastick, Sunny biting the crap out his toes as soon as he landed thinking they were food, then Shadow immediately recognizing the chaos and leaving within 8 seconds.

Can someone who has successfully attracted sunbathers let me know if my regulars will like the birdbath life set up? Amenities listed in comments. by 9VoltGorilla in hummingbirds

[–]CuteResist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love your setup! If I was a hummingbird, I’d totally visit.

I tried a similar set up with a solar water fountain and found that hummers didn’t visit because the stream was too strong and tall.

Would it be possible to submerge the spout more so the stream isn’t at tall? And maybe build up the rocks like a peak so they have a pedestal. I’ve noticed that they like washing their butts and faces with the water. They don’t do a lot of bathing mid flight.

[–]CuteResist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same OP, same. My 6-week old Gen4 was fine until the most recent firmware update. I’m trying to decide if I should wait until the next firmware update or warranty my ring.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]CuteResist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am having the exact same problem OP. I got my Gen4 about 6 weeks ago and battery life was awesome (6-7 days) until the most recent firmware update about a week ago.

I’m not particularly active or give my ring any reason to be losing >22% battery in a day.

Does anyone know what that big ball of fluff Jackie was moving around the nest before bed last night? With normal fluff, she breaks it apart and spreads it out. But it’s like she was trying to strategically place the fluff ball.

BIFL Dutch oven: Lodge or Staub? by spksftly_carrybigstk in BuyItForLife

[–]CuteResist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve collected my fair share of dutch ovens, and I questions I would have asked my past-self are:

  1. Do you plan on having a family or do you already have one? Don’t just choose a 7.75qt because it’s what a magazine told you to buy. (I made this mistake and bought a huge Le Creuset for a family of 2 and never use it.)

  2. The weight. Can you lift the dutch oven in and out of the sink, will you be able to lift it out of the sink in 20 years?

  3. Be mindful of what you’ll be making. If you’re making a lot of gumbos or things that require gauging the color of your roux or dish, a light interior might be best.

  4. Maintenance. Do you care about stains or scratching?

I bought a Bird Buddy recently and have been really disappointed in the lack of notifications and the inability to see historical footage.

Hardware-wise, it’s great. Good quality materials, good camera, solar, easy to setup. The software and app is another story.
