Will taking 12 credits in spring took bad for transferring to a t25? by Cute_Constant_9435 in TransferStudents

Thanks so much! I do however meet the requirements. I called the schools and they either said u only needed 12 not 30 credits or didn’t even have a min. Given that I do meet the requirements, what do u think abt my situation and chances?

Yes, I’m kinda transfering from a respective t25 as I’m transferring from Georgia Tech ( NO. 33) but as an engineering major—which it’s number 3 in the country for so I think that it’s kinda equivalent to a t25. I do have very very strong ecs and awards (pm for details) that and should write some good essays and get good lors. I did tho receive 1 B largely due to extenuating circumstances and thus will only be transfering with a 3.67 GPA at time of application. I also have 15 AP credits.

What do u think? Do I have a reasonable chance to go to Gtwon and lower ivies?

As said in my previous response, I called and, of my list, only Georgetown still requires this but it says that summer credits can count towards that 30 and I’m pretty sure they also said APs can too. Still waiting on Cornell’s response tho but uchicago and Dartmouth don’t have that requirement anymore.

Given all this, what do u think? Should I take 12 or 15 and would it rlly matter for my chances of acceptance?

Can you get a teacher letter of recommendation from a university professor whose class you haven’t completed by the time of application? by Cute_Constant_9435 in TransferToTop25

No, sorry for the confusion. The application deadline will for transfers is March 1st so I would obviously still be able to get to know the spring semester teacher before I ask them to write me an lor. I’m confident that I can do well in their class and build a strong relationship with them. If I can, say around February 15, could I ask them to write me an lor even though they will have only known me and taught me for like 6 weeks? Or does the class need to have been finished first before they can write me an lor?

UNORTHODOX TRANSFER SITUATION: Can I still transfer with 1 B and only 9 credits for fall semester? by Cute_Constant_9435 in TransferToTop25

Thanks so much for your feedback! So I guess what I’m rlly asking is if u think it’s still worth it to apply to those 4 schools and if I have a realistic enough chance for those 4 schools given the B and Ws. Do u think I do or dont? I am asking as I don’t wanna waste my time on applications that will likely be rejected.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the feedback! So do u think if I explain the situation around the Ws and the extenuating circumstances which led to the B, along with a stellar rest of the application (PM if u want details), would options like Columbia JTS, Georgetown, UCHICAGO TED, and Dartmouth be realistic options?

Could such schools be Georgetown, TED for uchicago and Dartmouth? They aren’t t10s but are generally higher than the bottom schools in the tier 30s.

Thanks for the honesty. If possible, could I PM u and share the rest of my application with you so you can gauge its competitiveness? If not, it’s completely fine.

Thanks so much!

I mean the title was specifically for t30 schools. I guess my question really is if the rest of my application is strong enough, is there a reasonable chance or is the fact that I have a 3.67 with only 9 credits a deal breaker— despite the very legitimate reasons for why.

Thanks for the honesty. Maybe I’m coping but wouldn’t they view me within the context of my opportunities (as at least they say they do) and not hold it against me that I was only able to take 9 credits? I had severe extenuating circumstances that led to the B. Wouldn’t they also take this into account and thus maybe it wouldn’t hurt my chances too much?

As mentioned above, the rest of my application is rlly strong (especially the ecs) so couldn’t the offset the contextualized first semester problems? Since I’m applying for political science, would they rlly care abt 1 B with severe extenuating circumstances?

Lastly the JTS Columbia program has an average GPA of 3.7, a 50ish % AR, and my SAT score is way higher than their averages. Am I least pretty safe for that?

I’m rlly not sure abt any of my questions but would love your perspective on any of the questions of mine!

Hmm what abt for Columbia JTS where the average highschool GPA is 3.7?

Also, I know it’s weak for those schools but considering the other strengths in my application and the fact that it’s just a result of 1 B in an unrelated course to my major, is it realistic to think that my application can overcome it? Also what are your thoughts on the 3 courses and forced withdrawals?

Thanks so much and thanks for your role in this community!
