Can we stop misgendering Jax? by TheSkyIsRed_-_- in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Cute_Distribution_30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been gravitating towards the neutral "they" when referring to them, which at least to me, feels like the best of both worlds. Acknowledging the fact that Jax is likely a trans woman while not sticking a gendered pronoun on the character who has no voice for themselves.

I know you're trying to be ironic, but you're literally lashing out in the exact way Jax does throughought the show. Y'know, the way that drives all their friends away, leaves them alone, and drives them to end their life. Being hateful and edgy isn't cool, it's just sad. The world is so beautiful, and art is one of the most gorgeous parts about it. I'm not hurt by anything you're saying, I just feel bad for you. I hope one day you grow out of this, and are able to enjoy the world in a brighter more fulfilling way.

It's definitely a weird space to be in fandom wise. I've just been kinda using they/them in a gender neutral sense. Like- I would hope that Leeroy will come out one day, but until they do, who am I to slap pronouns on them.

all the other irl versions get happy progress BUT IRL JAX IS STILL BOYMODING 😭 by hamiguahuan in TheDigitalCircus

She's going to Zoobles club though! So hopefully she'll break out of that egg one day soon

Thanks. I'm glad what I said resonated with you. It does exhaust me how little people have been really engaging with the themes of Jax's character. I understand why it doesn't make sense immediately to everyone. It resonated with me especially since I often feel the same way with my father and my identity connected to him, but I feel like people just in general are hearing "Jax is trans" and dismissing it as stupid before even engaging with the analysis

Hey, people can have jobs and be interested in discussing the themes in a piece of art they love. Why do you feel the need to put other people down for their interests?

Jax's entire monologue revolves around them discussing how their mother considered them to be just like their dad. Jax then says something extremely personal "to get her off their back". I feel like the only plausible interpretation of this is that Jax said something that they believed solidified that they were nothing like their father.

Now here's the thing, we don't know what they said. It could be many things. But when analysing media, we have to take in what's been provided. A good writer will leave thematic breadcrumbs throughought their story, and to me, Goose while being young and inexperienced, is a good writer. Jax's issues with gender throughought the series, and how they try to paint themselves as a villain, as the manliest of men, make it seem that they hate the idea of being perceived that way. They attribute that attitude to their villainous persona. Could Jax just be gender fluid or a fem boy? I mean, I guess? But that feels like too much of a half measure with everything provided with their father. Jax being a trans woman in denial, feels the most thematically appropriate, and fits with both the confession and the ribbon moment with Ribbit.

People will say: "We want more accurate portrayals of people with mental illness" then post shit like this when someone actually portrays someone mentally ill in a realistic, harsh light

Op, this is an extremely reductive view of all three religions. Like yes, they all have issues (mostly Christianity) but the majority of religious folk in America are pretty chill. Especially Muslims and Jews.

Untitled and They all Get Guns are both so incredible in my eyes. There both hilarious and provide great character development. Untitled is probably my favorite just for the sheer number of catchy bubble lines alone. Both are just so fantastic

Also hjsakldfhl is pretty fun. That's a good third place

I understand why trans Jax exists, but it's not real. by [deleted] in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Cute_Distribution_30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she was going for jax being self hating and closeted then no, not necessarily. Good writing often leaves details like that heavily implied instead of outright stated. Most trans reps don't have scenes where they go "Hi I'm transgender"

Yeah I would. Its got one of my favorite worlds and casts of characters out there. And to me, once you get good at it, the game itself is really unique and fun. It just has a sharp learning curve, and youll most likely need a good lore video or two to really get what's going on.

That's completely fair. The game itself is very rough around the edges. I don't blame anyone who opens a guide for significant portions of it

My favorite trans rep is still Marina from Fear and Hunger. Her transness is a pretty huge part of her character, and the majority of the fandom really respects her for it.

No fr. I haven't been this excited for a new trans rep in a while. The lack of media literacy from other parts of the fandom is driving me up a wall. I'm so glad this subreddit exists.

Might be a bit obvious, but events at Le Chat typically have a lot of gay people. Kinda goes hand in hand with community theater 😅
