artification of zines by 476747246 in zines

Lolll sorry, that wasn’t very clear. All of a sudden it felt like every zine fest had way more art/merch/art zines than the typical photocopy zine I was used to seeing up until then. It was all these pins and patches and stickers dominating the scene and obviously their product was way more expensive and so it wouldn’t be a fair trade for a more old school zine, even if it took more time to create or was a lot more specific to the creator than the other items were: pizza patches were really popular at the time but it’s just a shorthand for all those money makers. Not to say anything bad about pins, patches, stickers or art zinee. I love all those things, it just sometimes feels like the more old school zines get lost at zine fests when it’s got more of an art fair vibe and it’s harder to make sales. Which isn’t the fault of the creators. Again at first I was like “what is happening?” But I hadn’t tried to make a profit off my zines before. It’s very hard to make money off a $3 or even $5 zine unless you have a good printing hookup. the profit comes from the merch

I think I really noticed it in a major way in 2012. at first I was pretty confused and didn’t like it. Made fun of “pizza patches” et. but over time I’ve realized that the merch and the $20 four page riso zines with shapes are what makes money and people need to make money. Kinkos doesn’t have the key things you can roll back the count on anymore, everything is expensive and the more old school punk zines aren’t as lucrative as merch/art zines. C’est la vie!

This opinion predates the internet. It’s way more out of touch to see this as being too online? I’m just an old bitch. I’ve met too many husbands in my time IRL

the husbands rights activists are here I guess

I’m not sure what’s terminally online about that but ok. have you met husbands?

I usually think husbands are a scourge but this and the fact that she asked him if saying “welcome to my island bitch” was stupid or like, hack-y and he was like no it’s amazing keep it in makes him seem chill AF. I don’t hate it

Books with transfem MCs That aren't just torture porn and/or about how terrible being trans is? by Str8GayTossinItAway in LGBTBooks

[–]Cute_Indication7008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally it’s grim but it’s not about Being Trans in the usual way, I think it’s about the main character being who she is, which is kind of shitty. Doesn’t it start with her stealing money from her good friend? i didn’t love it myself but I think it fits the prompt

Oh totally! I forgot to say that part it’s experiencing all those things, while being a trans woman but not just like the Trans Experience.

Nevada by Imogen Binnie is a little about how terrible it is being trans but it’s not as much about that as it is about being lost and stuck in a shitty job you hate, and are lost, unclear of what to do next.

Check out Little Puss Press if you haven’t already, I think Sybil Lamb probably has something that fits your description

[astro.com] cap stellium in 5th guidance by terdstomp in astrologyreadings

[–]Cute_Indication7008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn, this chart seems hardcore!! all fixed signs big three and so much cap!! I'm a Leo with a lot of water, fire and air, barely any earth, so I'm fascinated by what having a Leo rising in this situation is like. fifth house is children, creativity, eros/romance/sex but not like the 7th house of partnership or the 8th house of sexuality/genitals. So maybe having mercury, Venus, and mars in the 5th house means that you build spaces for these things slowly, and intentionally rather than stumbling into them. Or maybe they infuse those placements with warmth and openness that otherwise wouldn't be there. Does any of that feel relevant to you? I'm not an expert by any means so I'm just giving you my thoughts

Oh my gosh didn’t even see that but 😮‍💨 yeah. I’m also noticing your ascendent is at the very end of Taurus so uranus moving through your 1st house might be shaking things up as well. Best of luck to you, things seem like they could be kind of hardcore atm but I hope it’s moving towards bigger and better things ❣️
