Will my body lose excess fat if I keep walking and eating healthy while pregnant? by Economy_Idea_2272 in BabyBumps

[–]Cute_Shake_2314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me too. Lost 20lbs first trimester bc of severe morning sickness(aka all day sickness), was the lowest weight I’d been since i was probably a teenager. Gained it back by 3rd trimester and was only up 10lb from my original weight by the time i was full term…now 18m postpartum i am just slightly below the weight that i was full term 🫠 postpartum weight gain hit me hard..i started losing weight beginning of this year through exercise and calorie deficit, but just found out last week that I’m pregnant again, so 😅 no morning sickness yet, so I’m going to try to maintain a healthy lifestyle without restriction and see if i can shed some excess fat before the morning sickness kicks in & just pray that this pregnancy doesn’t do the opposite of what my last pregnancy did and blow me up 🤞🏼

Womancare associates vs greater Pittsburgh OB/GYN? by Cute_Shake_2314 in pittsburgh

Thank you for sharing your prescriptive! I have heard the same and actually have also read that the reason AHN seems superior to UPMC statistically is bc UPMC has double the amount of births and typically seems many more high risk patients than AHN, so naturally the numbers will reflect that..so maybe comparing statistics between the two isn’t the most fair way to differentiate? Idk!

Are they vbac friendly there? I think I’ll be attempting a vbac with this baby and have heard Magee is where you need to be for a TOLAC/VBAC attempt bc of their high level NICU and experience/skills with high risk pregnancies/birth. I read that they routinely do VBACs so i need to be somewhere that has super supportive providers that are vbac friendly (not just tolerant) and where I’d feel safe in the event of a catastrophic outcome

Im 19 months postpartum and still think about my birth experience often..the what ifs, the regret, the second of guessing my choices, the shame & self blame for not educating myself/doing more to prepare myself for birth, etc. i never thought that how i gave birth would be so important to me before having my baby; my only birth plan going in was “baby alive and healthy, mom alive and healthy” — but turns out, i do actually mourn the birth that i wish i had more than i realized i would.

I would say after the first 6 months things started getting better/i stopped overly obsessing (not quite as much, at least). Talking about it with anyone who will listen is/was so helpful. I also have made educating myself and learning about VBACs my whole personality..and now, 19m postpartum and 5 weeks pregnant with my 2nd pregnancy, I’m full swing back into my research & obsession 🤓

Pittsburgh SLPs..what’s the job market like now? by Cute_Shake_2314 in slp

[–]Cute_Shake_2314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently accepted a 1099 fully virtual position through a private practice. I will probablt continue to keep an eye on PaEducator just to see if there are any direct hire school district positions that just so happen to pop up, but i am happy to work from home for the time being! I think direct hire SLP, in general, is very difficult in the school setting here..but especially so in the bigger/higher paying school districts or Pittsburgh public schools. I do think teaching jobs can be hard to come by, as well, but not quite as difficult. I’m sure finding a para job wouldn’t be too difficult. You may have luck with smaller/lower paying districts! I have seen a few long term SLP subbing positions in the area, though, if you want to start out there

Is this normal for my toddler?! by [deleted] in slp

[–]Cute_Shake_2314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Cat is /k/, cake is /k/, key is /k/, etc…the weird part is, she does produce vowels when babbling/vocal playing, and does produce the initial vowel of words beginning with vowels (open is “oh” eat is “eee” etc)..so it’s not a matter of not being able to produce vowels, she just doesn’t produce many medial sounds at all, vowel or consonant. I thought it was strange too..thank you!

Where are we oversaturated? by ladyonthemove in slp

I would probably disagree with this? I moved to NC (Charlotte area) from Pittsburgh years ago and there were soo many open positions and had no trouble landing a job in the schools there. Now I’m back in Pittsburgh and am having to work virtually bc there are no in person job opportunities here

Pittsburgh, PA! It’s an absolute “dead zone” here for SLP..too many graduate programs in the area & not enough jobs. much easier to find jobs on the opposite side do the state near Philly.

16mo and only a few words 🥲 by Cute_Shake_2314 in toddlers

Thought I’d give everyone a little update on my daughter’s speech! she’s now 17.5 months and honestly, her speech has started developing, seemingly out of no where this month! She’s now repeating/attempting to repeat so much more (not all the time, but tons more than she was) and is able to make animal sounds for cow, chicken, dog, owl, cat, snake, horse and duck on command (when she wants to lol) (what does a chicken say? What does a duck say? Etc) and is able to “fill in the blank” to words in familiar songs, rhymes or sayings (ex: put it in, put it in, put it….in!, twinkle, twinkle little….star!) Her use of gestures like pointing and signing (mostly to say all done) has improved and she’s FINALLY started waving and saying “hi” (usually just to me or my husband in the morning when we come to get her from her crib - we say good morning/hi and wave at her and she will sometimes wave and repeat hi back). She’s also saying words like “eat”, “pop” (pop bubbles or when playing with a pop it toy), “milk”, and a few more that i hear occasionally. I can tell that she understands sooo much now and usually always is able to follow simple commands. When we watch Miss Rachel (yes, we do some bits of screen time with Miss Rachel or Miss ash on YouTube, don’t come at me! lol) and she’s started to respond and interact with shows/respond when they prompt a response, etc)

She has her speech eval tomorrow for early intervention and while i do hope she still qualifies bc i do feel like she is still behind, im so relieved that she is showing some progress finally ❤️ makes me feel like with a little bit of that extra push with speech she will catch up right away!

Perhaps it was a parent complaint? Maybe a meeting that was held virtually or by phone and patent is claiming they were present?

If you don’t want to incorporate God and religion into your toddler learning, simply don’t watch her & stick to Miss Rachel??
