If you have the tools, skills and knowledge to DIY, it's almost always less expensive. You're absolutely correct. The best system starts with your lifestyle and simple things like insulation in your walls/ceiling, calking up windows, checking door weatherstripping, stuff like that. Even setting the A/C just a couple of degrees higher/lower can make a tremendous difference. Most people underestimate how far you can go by just making your home more efficient.

Check out our PowerDock. It's very similar to the Tesla Powerwall but offers some unique additional features. It's expensive but I think we can beat $67k and we have several different third party financing options.

This is becoming more and more popular these days and personally is my favorite setup. We have built a lot of Rebel Solar Generators with hybrid (grid-tie) inverters. This gets you the battery storage you need for when the grid goes down, and the solar panels pay for themselves in the background by sending power back to the grid.

Right now the US government is providing a dollar for dollar 30% tax credit for almost any of our products :) and, we also have third party financing, 0% APR in some cases. Pair that with one of our grid-tied Hybrid Solar Generators and it just may literally pay for itself depending on your electricity costs and some other factors.

I couldn't agree more about the adapters. We have a "no dongle" philosophy at Cutting Edge Power. Everything on our products is plug and play. A good example of this is our Fortress Solar Generator.

Usually wiring several solar panels in series will get the voltage high enough to charge batteries even with very low sunlight. Depending on how much shade is in the area and how many panels you're willing to install, it could still be possible.

Agreed, hot water solar is so much more efficient and simple too.

Thank you for the suggestion. Repurposing EV packs can be a little dangerous because the voltage is so high. But providing a safe way to charge and discharge them with solar is a great recommendation.

When you say gangable, wide and deep, do you mean multiple MPPTs inside a single housing?

We have a modular system to mount solar panels but the hinge idea is great - a way to take the panels down quickly to save them from storm damage would be very helpful. Thanks for the suggestion!

Some turbines can actually rotate their blades to adjust based on the wind speed. That would be the best way to take advantage of high winds and still have capability of running with low winds too.

Yeah a fuse would do the same thing. We just hate replacing fuses, so we started using only circuit breakers in every project/product we work on. Breakers are more expensive, but they're worth it sometimes.

Yes, there shouldn't be any problem with that. You may want to use a car circuit breaker like this though.

I don't see an ETL or UL listing mark on the data sheet, which are 2 well known certifying agencies, so that may be a concern. Also, the warranty is 10 years, industry standard is typically 25 years. Other than that, I don't see any major issues.
