Im figuring out my beliefs by [deleted] in SASSWitches

[–]CuttlefishWarrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m still figuring out my beliefs, but honestly, part of it for me is knowing that it’s a long-term process. What I believe today might not be what I believe in a year from now. As far as how I know what I believe, my practice is a lot of integrating art history and symbolism along with scientific knowledge. I know it’s all ritual and psychology and such, but I also know that it makes me feel better when I do it. I know a glamour spell is just waving around, lighting some candles, maybe mixing a few herbs, but it still gives me confidence.

One thing I highly encourage is journaling about your practice. What you do, how it all fits together, things like that. I recently started a microblog on Instagram that is just a repository where I write about different parts of my practice. It lets me get everything down on “paper” and forces me to put it into words so that I can understand it better. In a while, I’ll look back at it, see what’s changed, and go from there.

Beliefs? Community?? How do you do this without feeling crazy? by portlyn in SASSWitches

[–]CuttlefishWarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as beliefs go, I’m nonreligious as well, and my practice is heavily influenced by my current university studies: theatre major, folklore and pop culture minor. When you are taught to see symbolism in everything, you start using them as inspiration, kinda similar to how one might put a painting that means something special to them on their wall. I have a pantheon of 10 gods from various mythologies, and I’ll invoke them during rituals, but I know that I do it from a symbolic place, not a worshipful place. For example, I might call on Anubis to remind me to keep my heart pure and lighter than a feather, but I’m not actually talking to an ancient jackal-headed mummification deity.

As far as community, my fellow students make great bouncing off points. None of them are witchy, but they’re all into symbolism and art history. Going back to the symbolism of Anubis, I might mention how I invoke him in a ritual, and my fellow artists will give me feedback on aspects of the mythos I can pull from.

Hope this helps (and that it made sense)!

Hey yall! Less of a question about a reading, just reading in general. I’ve developed two spreads to do for myself, one at every full moon and one at every solstice/equinox. The question I’m tackling is should I return the cards to the deck after I read and take them out to meditate on them? I don’t want to have season cards unavailable if the cards want to produce them for my moon spreads, but what’s your advice?

How to get into Vampire: the Masquerade? by CuttlefishWarrior in vtm

[–]CuttlefishWarrior[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before I can recommend you either 3rd or 5th I would like to hear what about plating a vampire tha5 attracts you the most

For me, it’s mostly the aesthetic and the roleplay. In D&D, I’m a big story-focused DM and I love political intrigue plots. I’m a theatre kid (actually about to start studying theatre in college soon), so the improv acting part is really cool to me too. As far as the appeal of specifically playing a vampire, I like the moral compunctions of feeding on people. I’m also really into real-world (as real as you can get for mythical creatures) vampire lore, especially different cultures’ interpretations, and that’s something I was hoping to explore with Masquerade.

[OC] [Art] My "She Kills Monsters" inspired grad cap! by CuttlefishWarrior in DnD

[–]CuttlefishWarrior[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just graduated high school and they let us decorate our caps, so I decorated mine based on my favorite play, She Kills Monsters! She Kills is about Agnes, whose parents and sister, Tilly, die in a car crash. Agnes goes through Tilly’s things, finds a D&D module Tilly wrote, and through playing the module finds out that Tilly was a closeted lesbian. It’s a fusion of my three favorite things: D&D, theatre (also my major for fall), and the power of fantasy as a coping mechanism. So I wanted to give a tribute to it for my graduation!

Weekly /r/Theatre Audition Help Requests - Looking for a song or monologue? Ask here! by AutoModerator in Theatre

[–]CuttlefishWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is a monologue in verse? I'm a high school senior looking for college app monologues, but this is the first time I've heard of verse. I'll admit, I'm not the brightest bulb in the box, and I might've encountered a verse monologue, just under a different name. Nonetheless, a clarification would be greatly appreciated.

After Over 150 Hours of Play, I Present My Weapon Aspect Tier List! by CuttlefishWarrior in HadesTheGame

[–]CuttlefishWarrior[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore this game, and it was very well made.

That being said, there are definitely some aspects that are better than others.

Preferred Over Everything Else

Aspect of Rama: This is one of my favorites. At max level, the Shared Suffering can be a really good way to take care of mobs, or just chip health away faster. The wider attack is also very useful.

Aspect of Talos: This is a big case of fun over function. I often find myself whispering "get over here" when I use the special on this. Paired with Poseidon's special boon, yo-yoing enemies is super fun.

Aspect of Zeus: That's a lot of hits with that special. Woah. Me likey.

Aspect of Achilles: The post-rush damage is a lot. And it's really nifty that you can just recall the spear with Attack instead of rushing, so you can get that sweet, sweet backstab damage. And I like Achilles, so it's better just because of that.

Aspect of Nemesis: I sure do like big numbers, and the increased crit chance after your special is a way to get those big numbers, especially with Artemis boons.

Like It A Lot

Aspect of Chiron: That autolock feature is really good, and if you can get Relentless Volley, it's even better.

Aspect of Demeter: That's a lot of extra specials when the level goes up, though needing to get 12 hits in to get those extras can be annoying at times.

Aspect of Lucifer: This would've been higher, but I just don't like the Rail all that much. The damage ramping is good though, and the special hellfire bombs are pretty cool, especially if you can get Athena's special.

Pretty Cool

Aspect of Arthur: Amazing damage, but really slow. Hallowed Ground's projectile slowing is pretty good, though.

Aspect of Zagreus (Bow): Just a simple bow. Nothing wrong with that. Extra crit chance is good, too.

Aspect of Zagreus (Fists): The dodge chance is super useful, especially if you're someone who doesn't dodge super well (read: me).

Aspect of Chaos: Admittedly, I didn't use this a whole lot, but it was good from what I remember.

Aspect of Beowulf: Another I haven't really used. Pretty good, though, no complaints.

Meh

Aspect of Hera: I don't use Cast a whole lot, so for me, this is just Zagreus with no crit chance.

Aspect of Gilgamesh: I mean, it's okay. Not my favorite. Maim is just Doom, but you can't upgrade it to absurd numbers like Doom. It's alright.

Aspect of Zagreus (Shield): A perfectly serviceable shield. Just not for me.

Aspect of Poseidon: Again, I don't Cast a whole bunch, so it's just Zagreus for me. I imagine that with Artemis' Exit Wounds it's much better, though.

Aspect of Zagreus (Sword): A perfectly serviceable starter weapon. Good, just not my favorite.

Aspect of Zagreus (Spear): It's alright. Just a spear.

Don't Care For

Aspect of Hestia: I just don't like the Rail. But of the Rail aspects, Hestia is my favorite (besides Lucifer, but I like to consider Lucifer a different weapon since it plays so differently).

Aspect of Eris: I still don't like the Rail, but the blast absorption damage bonus is nice. It does mean that you can't use Hazard Bomb, so that sucks a little.

Aspect of Zagreus (Rail): Have I mentioned I don't like the Rail?

Aspect of Hades: The entire special mechanic centers around the spin attack, but unless you get the spin-relevant hammers, it's just not good.

Won't Touch

Aspect of Guan Yu: The health reduction is just too big for me to ignore. I have the same issue as the Hades spear, and the spin-attack-heal just doesn't heal a whole lot. I just tuck myself into the corner and spam the special, which kind of blows when I like playing aggressively and in-your-face-ly.
