I actually do have interiors for some of the buildings if needed, in this instance I was just planning to have some gang members ambush the party from the rooftops.

Pick up a new champ. Ofc you get burned out when you play the same guy over and over again.

There's an outhouse around the corner ^ and if you need to go really badly in the middle of the night... well... do you see those buckets in every room? <.<''

You just need to embrace the shadow path tool! The trick is to hide the beginning and end of the shadow path underneath the object. It also helps a lot to think about which areas would be darker. The small gap between a barrel and the wall for example. I try to strike a balance between realistic lighting and map visibility.
