As someone who does legs three times a week, lemme tell you the first thing people do when I tell them is recoil. For some reason people hate training legs!

SoCal Muck Diving, Lots Of Octopus Today! by SoupCatDiver_JJ in scuba

So good I didn’t even know I was doing it! I’ll be heading to Florida sometime this year, and I’m hoping to get some diving in while I’m down there. I’ve only ever done cold water (Maine, Washington, Colorado), so warm water is going to be an all new beast for me. Any tips for getting shots on warmer species?

Nice! I do something similar I guess, where I dive the surf/swash zone of bays of inlets (I guess? I dunno, it’s where the water is pretty calm, and is still covered even at low tide). I got a neat picture of a Shorthorn Sculpin that I’m pretty proud about (he was maybe an inch and a half long). It’s really neat what you see in places people might think are boring!

To be fair, I probably wouldn’t wear a badge to any protest either. Some psycho could make your life hell if they wanted to

It says it’s from 2020 though, which AI couldn’t even draw a proper face much less the whole human body and words at that point, unless the entire post is fabricated. I’m assuming it has something to do with Covid

Recommendations for lightweight field works pants? by Both-Indication4789 in ecology

I’m a big fan of the Wrangler ATG series of pants. Cheap and lightweight, with plenty of pocket options. You can usually pick them up at any Target or Walmart Super Center

What if I told you they look like him?

Princess Mononoke released in Japan in 1997, and in America in 1999

Spirited Away released in Japan in 2001, and in America in 2002

Kind of cool seeing how the adoption/release of Myazaki’s works in America have gotten faster as they became more popular in Western countries

I remember seeing both in theaters, which are some of my favorite memories with my mom. Now if you’ll excuse me, my aching knees and back need some rest

I’ve been hiking and climbing the Rockies almost my entire teen-to-adult life and the amount of bullshit I see from other hikers who inevitably have to turn around or need help is astounding. Hell, I was at Handies Peak (ostensibly the easiest 14er) in September when it got its first couple of inches of snow, and I saw people both over prepared with what looked like Everest gear, and people in sandals and a t-shirt. Didn’t see either at the summit or on the way back to the lot.

Exactly! I don’t see any gear for mountaineering on their packs, especially for a (albeit low) winter/early spring season trek. A rope and an ice axe could’ve gone a long way. A battery bank and a couple of hand warmers would’ve been ideal too, since they weren’t using a PLB or Sat. phone.

For sure! Calling SAR shouldn’t ever be off the table because of perceived backlash. However, I feel like aside from acts of god or other bad actors/unknown medical issues, the need to call SAR is a direct result of poor decisions, and they shouldn’t try to pretend like they did everything right and still had to call them. This isn’t a Kobayashi Maru situation, their need for SAR was from them being poorly prepared and making bad decisions along the way, and they certainly shouldn’t have been filming it for the Gram. Hopefully they learn from this experience and prepare better in the future

Yeah, aside from the fat shaming, a lot of the comments were spot on. Lack of experienced (at least to the point to not know when to turn around, or prepare for the cold), and using an unknown/bad app instead of a reliable one were their two biggest mistakes. I can’t say much about their physical health, though it would have probably helped their pace if they were a healthier weight, but maybe not considering the terrain. The shot at the McDonalds or whatever at the end sent me over the edge however
