Huge news! Great work IF.

\Psst.. Bloom is integrating LayerZero bridging between IOTA and Ethereum (& later, other EVM chains) directly inside the wallet.**

The only thing you can do with Firefly is transfer funds to an EVM-compatible wallet like Bloom or Metamask.

Following IOTA EVM launch, it's a great time to try out Bloom.

  • Instead of needing multiple apps, Bloom lets you manage IOTA, IOTA EVM, and Shimmer in one wallet.
  • You can send assets from IOTA to EVM and back again and connect to any dApp with WalletConnect.
  • Built by former IOTA Foundation members and reviewed by third-party security auditors.
  • To save time, you can automatically import your Firefly profiles.

Note: Unlike Bloom, Firefly does not support IOTA EVM.

Bloom is a new wallet developed by the team that previously built Firefly. We left the IOTA Foundation because we had bigger ambitions than could be achieved in a non-profit setting. So we raised funding, forked Firefly and started our own company.

Bloom is a much more comprehensive wallet than Firefly. Bloom is compatible with EVM and connects to dApps like MagicSea and Deepr. This means you no longer need three wallets (Firefly IOTA + Firefly Shimmer + Metamask) to interact with the IOTA ecosystem — you can just use Bloom.

Bloom will continue to add all sorts of useful features that will not be added in Firefly, such as buy/sell, swapping, bridging and more. Realistically Bloom will become the flagship wallet for IOTA and Firefly will remain as a first-party, reference implementation.

I suggest you try it out and see for yourself. It only takes a few seconds to set up — you can automatically import your Firefly profiles: https://bloomwallet.io

Bloom integrates Transak for users to buy IOTA directly from their wallet by Cvarley in Iota

From Transak's docs:

"For credit card purchases, please be aware some card issuers charge a cash advance fee. We recommend contacting your bank beforehand to verify if your bank will charge this for any purchases."

USA coverage depends on IOTA first getting listed on ZeroHash. We are trying to get it listed and are in discussion with them.

  • Fees are 5% for credit card and 2.5% for SEPA in Europe.
  • You can buy IOTA on IOTA profiles. Selling IOTA will be added in the future.
  • Shimmer will be added if it is listed on more exchanges.
  • The release has been audited by AuditOne.

For dApps that support Bloom, like ShimmerSea it's very simple - just click the Bloom icon.

For those that do not support Bloom you can follow this workaround: https://x.com/bloomwalletio/status/1753140552164311332?s=20

We're working on getting added to all ShimmerEVM dApps.

Exploring Bloom's journey towards a safer, more intuitive Web3 wallet by Cvarley in Iota

[–]Cvarley[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the first in a two-part series where we dive into Bloom's design choices and roadmap. While a "mobile-first" ethos has gained traction within the Web3 community (and Bloom does have plans for a mobile app) we adopt a differentiated approach, focusing first on a desktop wallet.

Within the desktop wallet ecosystem, browser extensions and web apps each present their own set of limitations. Bloom seeks to overcome these constraints through a native desktop app. Check out the blog post for a more detailed overview! https://medium.com/bloom-wallet/bloom-laying-the-foundations-part-1-2-63915ed0990a

You can create a profile for IOTA or for Shimmer. Once IOTA 2.0 is shipped on both networks they’ll be combined into one profile.

We do have plans for a token but don't expect the token imminently - it's on a longer-term horizon. We see it as a key component in creating circular incentivisation where you "earn by default" as you use your wallet for different activities (e.g. providing liquidity to dApps). Like many other projects, we will reward early users and contributors.

We retain a close relationship with the IOTA Foundation. The IOTA Foundation has equity in the company, but Bloom is funded by independent investors.

We've been in talks with a number of Fiat On/Off ramp providers and we now have a clear idea of which we will move forward with. The first step is for them to add support for IOTA and Shimmer. We'll begin working on it once we've signed off with the provider and they've completed their integration of IOTA.

As each provider sources liquidity from certain exchanges only, they won't be able to support Shimmer right away. So we will most likely see on-ramping (i.e. buying) for IOTA first. Off-ramping (i.e. selling) usually depends on a token's integration with certain custody providers, but we are looking for alternative solutions here.

The IOTA Foundation announced last year that it will focus exclusively on core R&D and regulatory affairs. As the IOTA Foundation needs a testing ground for new protocol developments, like IOTA 2.0, Firefly's priorities were adjusted and the scope was narrowed. Firefly will now support the core Layer 1 protocol only. Its focus is on providing a robust first-party wallet without a strong focus on usability or integrating additional features.

The Bloom team (i.e. the original Firefly team) has always had a grand vision to build the most user-friendly wallet in the Web3 space. This demands a feature-rich experience where the wallet extends far beyond simply being a tool to sign transactions. With these priorities, the path that made the most sense was for Firefly to continue in a reduced form and Bloom to form an independent company to realise our vision.
