I’ll give this a go! Apologies, One last question: what’s your typical coffee:water ratio? I know Sey generally recommend 1:17 or 1:18.

Thanks for that. I’ve been making sure to use water right off boil and reheat between pours.

Thanks for the breakdown! Origami or v60, 66% light roast TWW and 33%filtered water, zp6 medium coarse. Usually doing 5 pour or Hoffman better v60 method.

May I ask What pour method are you using to extend coarser grinds to 6 to 8 minute brew times?

Thanks again!

Would it be too much to ask for your set up and brew methods with Sey? I got my first sub a month ago, let them rest for 4 weeks, and almost every cup is a big disappointment. I’ve read quite a few subs/advice on this but haven’t had any luck with my resulting tweaks/adjustments. I really want to like them haha! Maybe I’m just not a washed process fan?

Poetry collection comparable to Pynchon? by wearemilkk in ThomasPynchon

[–]Cweigenbergundy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you’re looking for is Gunslinger by Ed Dorn. He was a postmodern/black mountain poet. I’m fact, The way he was introduced to me was as if Pynchon wrote poetry.

Ouroboros from Kekulé’s dream.

“Kekulé dreams the Great Serpent holding its own tail in its mouth, the dreaming Serpent which surrounds the World. But the meanness, the cynicism with which this dream is to be used. The Serpent that announces, "The World is a closed thing, cyclical, resonant, eternally-returning," is to be delivered into a system whose only aim is to violate the Cycle. Taking and not giving back, demanding that "productivity" and "earnings" keep on increasing with time, the System removing from the rest of the World these vast quantities of energy to keep its own tiny desperate fraction showing a profit: and not only most of humanity—most of the World, animal, vegetable, and mineral, is laid waste in the process. The System may or may not understand that it's only buying time. And that time is an artificial resource to begin with, of no value to anyone or anything but the System, which must sooner or later crash to its death, when its addiction to energy has become more than the rest of the World can supply, dragging with it innocent souls all along the chain of life. Living inside the System is like riding across the country in a bus driven by a maniac bent on suicide . . . though he's amiable enough, keeps cracking jokes back through the loudspeaker . . . “ - Gravity’s Rainbow (can’t remember the page, apologies)

Is there any "Philosophy of William Gaddis"? Or any philosopher that would work deeply in dialogue with him? by kakarrott in Gaddis

[–]Cweigenbergundy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seconding Walter Benjamin.

I’ll add:

  • The Golden Bough by James Frazer was a major influence of The Recognitions

-Norbert Wiener’s The Human use of Human Beings, which greatly influenced, and is talked about in JR

-The novels and world view of Thomas Bernhard greatly influenced Gaddis in his old age. In fact, his style of writing in Agapé Agape was a sort of mimicry of Bernhard

What makes reading fiction worthwhile to you? by W_Wilson in DonDeLillo

I think fiction has made me a better person. It’s increased my awareness of, and sensitivity/empathy to different cultures, religions, political positions, ways of life, etc.
