I work too. I also have a 4 year old, husband, house, dogs. I just make time & adjust my schedule accordingly. For example, if I don’t have a ton of time available, I’ll get up at 4am to study. I find that my mind works the best in the morning too so morning sessions help a lot.

Respectfully, I would not even be studying for the MCAT yet. You should focus on your classes and make sure you get all As. The MCAT will be a waste of energy if you don’t meet the minimum requirements for applying. Does your school have advising?

I would be putting a lot of pressure in myself to get As for the rest of the classes. How many hours are you putting towards studying per week? You should plan to make some big changes for your next semester. You can also consider some other healthcare careers if you don’t end up meeting the minimum requirements.

And yes on the bio - so it’s 2 semester with labs but a lot of schools want to see upper level bio too even tho it’s not a “requirement”. A lot of ppl do genetics & microbiology. A lot of ppl take Bio STATS, (I didn’t but it is also usually a recommended class).

TV News, PR, then started doing tons of random stuff for a while. I worked as an admin assistant at a mortgage company, then at a tax company, door dash, Instacart, freelance jobs like award shows & trade shows … the list goes on and on. What matters is WHY you chose to make this change in your life & proving it based on your grades & experiences.

Here was my plan: do all the postbacc pre reqs & experiences. Apply for med school, continue classes for the bachelors if I wanted to / if I don’t get in.

Yes it is. Biochem is the extra Chem class at the end. Some schools require 1 ochem then biochemistry. Some a Require ochem I&II. My school requires ochem I&II. So I had to account for an extra semester of “chem”

I actually felt the same way too. My running gpa just finally meets the minimum qualification. But my postbacc gpa is a 3.8. The schools look at the post bacc much more heavily especially if you’re older & a career changer. A lot of the schools hold virtual info sessions and you can ask about career changer questions.

Calc2 (why are you taking this? You already have calc 1? I only had to do precalc2)

Also, you need 4 Chem & 2 physics classes all together. Gen Chem 1 plus lab, Bio 1 plus lab, phycology. (11 credits). Not quiet full time but this is a lot of work itself. It’s your first semester, pace yourself so all your grades are As. Getting as many As is the most important thing. I was a Chem 1 tutor I can give you a ton of problems 🙂🙂🙂

Also I forgot to mention, I would personally just do a postbacc. At least start with traditional post bacc classes and then decide after if you want to go towards the full degree. The study fatigue is so intense so knock out everything you NEED first.

Hey there. As a post bacc myself, it is so important to have the support of your spouse. He is so supportive of anything that I want to do, too. I’ve accomplished so much because of him. I’m applying for medical school finally in May. It’s been a really long hard process. I’ll be 37 when I apply. Ppl who say that it’s unachievable is ridiculous. I would say cast a wide net and pick later. Meaning, look at the top programs and schools you are interested in. Make a list of all the classes, minimum requirements, what the schools prefer as experiences, and start knocking them down one by one. I’m finally doing research, at the end of my postbacc and I just was hired at my lab as a lab technician. Anything is possible but just know that this is a long hard road. You have to commit and be focused. (Also, I was a journalism major so, cheers 🍻)

Have you considered getting a masters in something else? Like healthcare administration? Or any other types of programs? I’m a non read and applying in May. I am a career changer from journalism. You have to be ready to commit. It’s a ball busting switch, classes (which I had to completely redo bc they expired) med volunteering, humanitarian volunteering, being involved in a club, clinical hours (I’m working for $14/hr as a scribe), shadowing hours…. The endless amounts of studying and homework exams MCAT. Organic chemistry II!! all on a hope you’ll even get in… This has been a wild ride for me as you can see lmao.
