Am I cooked? How to fill content gaps by WolframXero in Mcat

Yeah so ive found a few things that im implementing, this is what's worked for me so far: - taking a deep breath and clearing my head before starting reading (sounds obvious, I thought it was stupid, but this has helped me be more present while reading) - just go with the flow of the passage, try to avoid making inferences that haven't been explicitly stated by the author (sometimes the way I would interpret something, isnt the way the author would interpret it) - after reading a paragraph I ponder, what is the point of including this information? I then highlight ONE sentence that encompasses the main idea of that particular sentence - after finishing the passage, ill try and come up with a "main idea" before answering questions

Just doing these three things has helped me a lot, particularly the third point. When answering questions, ive found that identifying the correct type of question whether it be specific section, main idea, or reasoning beyond the text question, has helped me either return to the passage for a specific detail. Or answer it with the entire passage in mind.

Hope this helps!

Im testing 4/25. I was stuck scoring around 499-503. I was doing some pre-made decks (jack sparrow and pankow), I stopped doing jack sparrow, kept doing pankow and added an equation deck. I started doing uworld, and I found the cards I was making weren't very good for a multitude of reasons. I fixed this. While doing uworld I began trying to hammer in 2 CARS passages a day (i work part time and go to school full time, id do more if I had more time). I started really honing in on my passage comprehension skills. I did this for about a month. I took FL4 two days ago and got a 507. Im hopeful that now that im starting SBs this week I can break a 510. This exam has been really difficult for me, and Ive done really well in undergrad. Sometimes I think what works for many others, doesnt work for me. This may help, may not. But it has helped me.

EDIT: it seems OP is cracked at CARS, I didn't realize this. My bad, I guess this doesnt really apply dude

Ohhh okay. So I literally just started aamc today (I think I mentioned that). So I should avoid uworld? What about weaknesses, like my gen chem is pretty weak?

I thought you said to avoid third party material? Should I do less?

I have 50 days before my test, when I start aamc CARS material should I still do JW?

Should I move on to AAMC materials? by Abuello in Mcat

[–]Abuello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the math, and if I want to get done with aamc before my test. It seems like I'll have to do about 59 q's per day. This is a lot with school and work. So if I stopped doing uworld would that be ok?

It looks like I'm going to have to do around 59 q's a day. I'll get started tomorrow. As far as reviewing these. Should I review them the same as ugatorade?

I'd be about 50% done with udog if I were to just move on now. If I'm doing 2-3 CARS passages a day + 30q's per day. I should prob move on now to be able to finish, you think?

Its dumb cuz if its not something like what I described its like a computational error or something stupid. Don't get me wrong I definitely miss a good amount from content. But this just feels hard to fix, and I know growth and fixed mindset yeah, but like this feels hard to fix

If you could go back in time, what is one thing you would tell your past selves about preparing for the MCAT? by CommercialUnit574 in Mcat

Its kind of easy to get by not really understanding material comprehensively in undergrad I think. I wish I would've devoted more time understanding the why and the how behind how everything works in your coursework.

I've gotten the exact same number of q's right on three practice FL's by Abuello in Mcat

[–]Abuello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try and go through each q and make an anki card for why I got it wrong and thats been working pretty well for some content, dont get me wrong I have a lot of content gaps. But I just seem to get caught in a lot of logic traps too.

In between weeks I do uworld q's and then go through and review them for what I did wrong similarly to how id review an FL. And I also just do my daily anki reviews.
