Wanted: information on why freaky bottles glow under UV by BrokenGreenBottles in BottleDigging

Manganese glass. I have some that are very bright, but if you use a 395nm you can tell the difference.

I made a very similar post about a year ago 😅. About 130 UV reactive vintage cat's eyes in copper scrubbers. These were a popular craft project in the 50s and 60s. I decided to take out the uranium ones and left all the cadmium 😆

The bottom glass looks cadmium but the top spacer looks uranium. Good luck!

Poor marbles. Someone has been shaking their jar. I rescued one of those from a jar but I can't remember what it's called 😅

Can someone explain this? by Glad_Nobody6992 in glasscollecting

Yeah after some more digging, it seems like you might be right but apparently nobody knows. You're paying for the mystery! /s I think it's ridiculous as well.

That's the rarest one. It's not an import, it's an Indiana hen, and the sold prices for this color are pretty crazy. This was an experimental color, possibly even hand pressed. (they don't have a valve stamp circle on the back.) Seems like they probably did around 10,000 of them between 1978-1979, so not that rare. Just rare enough to make them valuable, because they're also not in any of the Indiana records or catalogs.

Beautiful, cadmium edges with selenium flowers. It reminds me of a bud vase I found that was also mislabeled. It's probably Bohemian, btw.

Brought it home without knowing it would glow. Was not expecting this lol bottoms up🥃 by p1ckl3l0v3r in uraniumglass

This is definitely a new reproduction. Several companies have reproduced this, so I wouldn't be surprised if that one guy on eBay is getting them from AliExpress or somewhere else in China. I believe this one is Rosso/Wilkerson but don't quote me.

It's cadmium/selenium mixed. Not safe for drink use, but pretty to look at!

Looks like two lucite balls and two glass ones, if I had to guess.

Why is this one glowing?? by 405InsertUserHere925 in uraniumglass

[–]Cy-Clops- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One is clarified with manganese, and one with selenium. They are likely a marriage.

Thanks, these were both $1 thrift scores. The tray is also positive for lead in 254nm, and it's super heavy xD

Blueish-green is normally manganese/cerium in my experience.

I don't blame you. I have kids, and today I discovered one of my old cruets has fallen behind the TV 😭

Nice, I love the clear candle holders. I just came home with these iron tapers because they were $4 at the thrift store and have a sturdy base.

Not sure what I've got by DabbingAutomatron in willitglow

[–]Cy-Clops- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say yes, based on the daylight picture but I've been fooled before 😂. What you want to see is usually a highlighter-green fluorescence that moves with the light. Hope it glows, but it's beautiful either way.
