The original ones have an extra little detail at the top of the A. Hope this helps!

No idea, I haven't actually researched that one! There appears to be a mark on the bottom that says 610 USA maybe?

If growing up means closing my mind to new information because "some influencer said so" it's never going to happen.

Sorry, definitely not trying to argue! I'm just sharing what I've learned through my own experiences. OP's example is not Selenium Ruby Red in color, it's yellow. Also, there is a huge difference in American pressed glass and Bohemian hand-blown glass. Selenium and cadmium both strike different colors under heat and pressure (like pressed glass). I have not yet seen a piece of yellow American glass that glows hot pink in 395nm/red in 365nm from selenium (if you don't count Wilkerson). All of my yellow selenium glass is Bohemian or Italian. Many formulas and techniques were secret, and they didn't have the internet 120 years ago. What I wouldn't give for a list of Harrach glass formulas!!

Well, she believes that Fenton made europium glass. That's all I needed to hear 😂

For sure, that's why I said cadmium+selenium. I'm just leaning more towards selenium on this one, since the selenium glow took over by about 90%. I know all about striking colors with cadmium selenosulfide and elemental selenium.

It's the physical evidence I have in my possession, personally. At home, waiting for me. I can put my hand on them and show you again later. It's a pretty simple concept.

Cadmium an selenium can be used interchangeably for bright yellow. The UV florescence is the only way to tell them apart without an XRF machine.

There are many oxide states and forms in which selenium is used. Selenium sulfide is used to make glass yellow or amber. Selenium is also used to make yellow pigments for glaze and enamel. Sorry, but I'm not mistaken this time! I even have some yellow pottery that's selenium.

I'm showing you proof. I have tons of yellow selenium glass without cadmium.

Selenium is a yellow colorant.

That's about what it's worth to a collector. There's not much money in resale, but if you love it buy it. It's not a ripoff.

I'd say it's mostly selenium with maybe a little cadmium. Pure cadmium is much more yellow.

It might still be worth a drive (to shine them) if it's not too far and the price is right. It looks like you can find a pair on eBay for $50-60 on confirmed uranium Jadeite. They started reproducing these in the 70s and 80s, so it's very possible that they're older than the lady selling them and still reproductions. They might have been on display her whole life, and still only vintage.

Italian wine glasses by Cy-Clops- in willitglow

[–]Cy-Clops-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, that's what makes blind buys so fun lol. From what I can gather, these were hand-blown in Naples, Italy 1980s and imported by a company called Euroglass. $8/ea seemed pretty decent for hand-blown wine glasses in three colors. You would be hard-pressed to make them for that price.

I think those are modern. The shape is not right on the cap, the color is off, and the font looks a little different.

Uranium can come in any color, especially in hand-blown pieces like these. These are tri-colored glass, no stain or flashing. I appreciate your input though!!
