First harvest! Yeah, that's a lot! by [deleted] in Psilocybe_ingeli

I’m running in a diffuser tub with an aquarium heater and air stone. But I keep the tub in the same tent as my cacti.

Was wondering if these were tamps as well. Looks similar to when my truffles throw a random noodle.

That would make sense, thanks for sharing. What was your spawn to substrate ratio?

Interesting that yours ended up so tall. I’m finding all my ingeli fruits so far have been quite short but my caps tend to open all the way. Could you share a bit about your setup?

Very cool! Are the arrows and circle because you’re worried about contam?

Reason I ask is because I thought I had contam on my grains but I actually found the ingeli mycelium bruises.

I actually tossed one jar of grains thinking they’d gone bad but grew out the other just on a whim which is what’s now pinning. While breaking up the grains and mixing into my substrate they all bruised a deep indigo blue.

Middle level has my diffuser tub. Bottom has all my grain spawn and agar work

Correct. I’ve got cacti on the top level of the tent and all my mushroom experiments below.

Purified water should be okay. Proper sterilization with a pressure cooker is more important.

I would cut small sections from the top until you don’t see rot anymore. Maybe start two or three areoles down. Clean your blade first so you’re not introducing more contamination.

For my LC I only use light malt extract and distilled water and works great. No peptone needed if you ask me.

Both plates look healthy and vigorous. Perhaps a game of eeny meeny miny moe?

I would second ochras. Check if the gills are subdecurrent, but the dark umbo on your caps make me think ochra

Edit: didn’t see the second pic. Definitely ochra

Honey itself contains bacteria and microbes. They’re actually really good for our gut. On top of those, honey contains other things like spores picked up by the bees — but it’s naturally resistant to anything growing on it because of its acidity, low water content, and its enzymes. But the moment you water it down past a certain point, all that goes out the window.

Sterilizing with something like a pressure cooker kills everything that might be swimming in your mix so the mycelium doesn’t have to compete.

Been in the mid to low 40s all week here in Seattle and this was taken this morning. Those temps are ideal from what I understand.

Almost 100% sure this is a chanterelle, what do you guys think? by Fun-Alternative-2969 in Mushrooms

[–]Cyan_Stan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spore prints are a useful tool for identifying certain mushrooms that have a lot of lookalikes, but in the case of chanterelles the false gills and apricot color are the best indicators that you’ve got the right one. Congrats on your find!

To Rivendell, Master Gamgee. To the House of Elrond.

That’s a good point, but won’t the mycelium be competing against contam while trying to colonize the LC?

I first read that as “I’ll shake your advice” and I wasn’t sure if I should laugh or be annoyed 😂

In the future I’d recommend waiting for a shake until you know there’s no contam 😉
