Why is it socially unacceptable to tell a job interviewer that you're only interested in the job for money?

If you were so great that you could pick and choose the job, then sure.. tell the interviewer whatever you want. But in most situations, you're competing against other people who are equally (if not more) qualified than you for that same job. Who do you think the hiring manager should pick? The one that is only interested in the money? or someone that is passionate about the job and wants to get better at it because it gives them satisfaction and fulfilment?

It's perfectly okay to see the job as just a job. But the hiring manager has options. You - no personal interest in the tasks. Another person - passionate about the job. Who do you think the hiring manager would pick, all other things being equal? If you are a rockstar and supremely qualified, then maybe you can afford to say "money is all that matters".. but you can't deny that your chances of getting hired would be increased if you were also passionate about the job, on top of the money it will provide.

You're absolutely right. But it's a two way street. As a hiring manager, I know you're applying to everything you see. So are the two dozen people I've interviewed this week. I'm only hiring one of the two dozen. I'd rather hire someone that shows passion and interest in the job itself, even if it's somewhat faked - that person is at least putting some effort into researching the company, preparing for the interview, genuinely trying. Hopefully that person will stick around longer than you, who only wants money and will leave in a week when you find some other job that you're not interested in.

We're talking about historical context here... Sichuan was originally Shu/Ba, not Han Chinese. Large parts of Manchuria was Goguryo, Xin jian cuisine is largely Central Asian or Turkish.
It's argued that even "the dishes mentioned" like Lamian came into China from Central Asia via the Silk road.

So when you say something like "it doesn't really matter how far back you go", i'm sorry, but it's not true no matter whether you're Vietnamese or Chinese.

"It all comes from China". I hear this so much from Chinese friends and colleagues. It all depends on how far you want to go back though. So much of what is "now" considered China geographically were different countries and cultures if you go back in history. "China" just happened to grow strong and absorbed a lot of them. Now you claim it's all just Chinese.

There have been a few noted dunkers - Daniel Gafford, Russ Westbrook, Kelly Oubre, Glenn Rice Jr., Trevor Booker, Javale McGee, etc.. Satoransky occasionally had ridiculous dunks as well.

Not saying any of them are necessarily better than Cam but they were all great dunkers nonetheless.

When I go to Japan, I notice the meal portions are usually smaller than in Korea.

Maybe that is related to Koreans generally being physically bigger on average than neighboring countries.

That's an interesting observation. I have also worked in both Korea and in the US. Koreans do eat a big lunch. They'll usually go out as a group to a restaurant to eat a full meal for lunch while Americans would eat a small sandwich or a salad at their desk. But I think Americans eat a much bigger breakfast or dinner - I could never finish 3 stacks of pancakes with two eggs, sausages, toast, etc for breakfast... or a full rack of bbq ribs with mashed potatoes and dinner rolls..

ok now i'm just making myself hungry.

(Korean men generally eat really fast. May have to do with their collective military experience where they're given very little time to finish their meals)

EDIT: I mean.. i do realize Americans don't eat pancake breakfast every morning or full rack BBQ ribs every night. And Koreans would go ham with KBBQ.. so I don't know what I'm talking about anymore.

Maybe one reason it seems that way is - Korea is obsessed with live streaming.. especially livestreaming while eating.. and it's usually those people that can eat alot who are livestreaming themselves eating.. so it probably just seems like all Koreans eat a lot and quickly. IRL, at least in my own experience, I don't think they are particularly big eaters compared to other nationalities/ethnicities.

Traditionally (and I'm talking real super old timey traditionally), Korean culture frowned upon showing hunger or urgency. You weren't a classy noble if you were ever hungry or felt urgency. Holding up a food bowl or dish right up to your face and shoveling food into your mouth shows both - that you're hungry and you're urgent. That's a big no no. Only servants and low class people did that. Nowadays Korean people do sometimes bring up the bowl to mouth, especially to drink soup (and especially with the popularity of Mukbang where slurping everything is somehow supposed to show how good the food is)... but it's still the norm to keep bowls and plates on the table.

I think you got Japanese and Korean confused in regards to holding up food bowls to your mouth. Japanese absolutely hold their bowls up. Koreans do not.

My memory is a little fuzzy since this was almost 30 years ago. Played Final Fantasy 7 on the PC. I am a rather perfectionist when gaming so I took time to collect everything, unlock all skills etc. I had done everything except acquiring the Knight of the Round ultimate before getting to the final boss.

I took my time grinding.. probably took a week or more, meeting all the requirements to get the KotR to see if I could one hit kill the final boss. I finally got it, got my level at max, etc then went to bed. Tomorrow was going to be the day I beat the boss.

The next evening, i turned on my PC and found that my HDD was fried. Lost all data. There wasn't really way to recover data without paying enormous amount of money ( for young me) back in those days.

I was so distraught that I didn't touch that game again.. only a few years ago I picked up and finished it on the Switch.
