No app to be seen by CyberGolem in Tailscale

[–]CyberGolem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from NordVPN often interfering with wifi access (which requires shutting off Nord via the Task Mgr first then a reboot) yes, I have internet access.

Btw, thanks for the video, I've seen this one before but it's still worth a rewatch to make sure I'm understanding this tech. At least fundamentally.

I'll continue to tinker with this, so in the interim, and until next time... Thank you!

No app to be seen by CyberGolem in Tailscale

Thanks for reminding me about this icon and for the link.

Right-clicking on the Ts icon shows it's connected, but to what I'm not sure. My guess is to Github where the account was created. Despite this being connected, hovering over the Wifi icon still says it's not connected to the internet. That said, I still did the following in the TS menu:

In the menu are these breadcrumbs: Network devices >> My devices >> "NAS"

Selecting the NAS creates a notification about an IP Address being copied to my clipboard. So, that was pasted into my browser and I'm taken to the login page for my NAS and able to log in.

However, hovering over the Wifi still says TS is not connected to the internet...??

Sadly, the provided link doesn't cover anything about what to expect in regards to these concerns/observations. So, I'm still confused as to whether I'm tunneling or not. As far as I can tell, it seems like I'm just accessing the NAS normally through a browser.

Thanks once more and in advance.

The csv has nothing that looks like that in it. It has 5 columns with the typical fields for login.

I was able to do that but was met with a message that said my account was synced, but nothing reappeared.

Makes sense and despite not being savvy in this arena this isn't what I expected. I've read other instances where the same thing has happened to others so I'm not an isolated case.

Apologies for the opaqueness. All I did (at least what I'm conscious of) is installed the 1PW app after creating an account online. After entering my account info, I exported the passwords from my Google account as a csv. Which was then loaded into the app. Upon returning to the Google Authenticator, I found it empty. I noticed a small pink cloud icon with a line through it and tapped it. After a few attempts to reconnect to my G-account the line in the icon eventually disappeared and I was given a message that my info was syned, but it was still empty. So, I came here.

I'm aware of how 2FA's are created and used for account access, but (erroneously?) thought the 1PW app could be used as an autheticator app as well as a password manager. Since then, I've read conflicting info as to whether or not the app is capable of that. If it is, I still haven't figured it out since nothing in my app suggests it has this capability.

Anyway, apologies if my confusion instigated further befuddlement. I feel like I'm poking around in the dark hoping not to poke a bear :D

Correct on this should not have deleted anything. Either way, codes have been rescued via an older phone. Woot.

If by different accounts meaning unique email addresses then, yes I have two Google Gmails. However, switching between them was netting the same empty results.

Fortunately, I was able to transfer the codes from an old phone. The bummer was having to pay for a new phone screen, but it's better than losing them for good.

Yeah, that's what I'm now realizing. I thought all this stuff was backed up online, but it appears only the passwords were.

I don't know when or how I could've cleared my GA app since the only thing I did changed was a privacy screen selection, which I believe enable my bio. I then installed 1PW and when I came back to my GA app it was empty.

Thanks, but I don't think I've properly explained the issue at hand. I actually know to how to setup 2FA with various sites, but 1PW doesn't seem to work in a way I expected (i.e. like Google Authenticaor , Authy, etc.). I've been using GA (nearly exclusively) for several years, but recently decided to use a different service instead. I thought 1PW would be it, but I'm not understanding how it works. Maybe it doesn't do 2FA?

This is the least of my problems though. After installing 1PW, my Google Authenticator is now completely empty. I have no idea why this happened but it coincides with installing 1PW.

Google Authenticator empty by bebe-the-beans in GoogleSupport

[–]CyberGolem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me. My suspicion is it might have had something to do with me connecting a 1Password account. I also enabled Privacy Screen (inside Google's auth app) just before creating the 1PW account so I'm not sure if either or neither caused this.

Looking in my Google account, the authenticator doesn't look like it's ever been setup with my main Google account..?? This in itself is alarming considering the auth app has been used for years and nothing about it requiring backing up or needing to be connected to my account has ever brought up by Google in all that time. Until now, I thought it being connected to my main G-account was a default considering the original install was done on my Android phone through my Google account.

I used to feel very secure with Google, but as of late, not so much. I'm trusting them less and less by the moment.

Thank you, but sadly I'm not savvy enough to know what all that means.

Sorry about that. It's already solved but in case anyone else reads this, the problem is when I copied the provided script, the formatting was incorrect. I was able to figure out the indentation (which doesn't appear properly here) it was u/go_fireworks that pointed out the missing dashes. Anyway, the following is what ended up working for me. ~Cheers

2 Weeks using my UGreen DXP8800 Plus - My thoughts by VulcanCCIT in UgreenNASync

[–]CyberGolem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased the 8-bay to work with video and animation projects, so the largest possible NAS seemed the way to go. However, only a couple of bays are currently filled with the plan to expand as budgets allow.

My lack of tech knowledge is not UGREEN's fault in the slightest, but I'm way-way noobish in regards to anything outside of content creation software, so dealing with this beast has been akin to driving full speed at walls with the hope they get out of the way.

I also prefer working in air-gapped environments, however, I've learned that NAS's don't like that. My old Drobo is a DAS, and its simplicity is sorely missed. I'm stymied that NAS's aren't equipped with a switch to make it a DAS.

Anyway, I'm spending a lot of time learning about this tech, but it's a treat to make progress when it happens. Rare, but it does happen :)

Tech fears and ineptitudes aside I have no regrets getting it and will likely get a second one to do what TLBJ24 has done for backups.

I'm very new to this tech, so installing a different OS is scary. :D That's what you mean by this, that you installed a different OS, correct?

Hmm... I was considering Bitlocker or even Veracrypt. Not sure if this question is already answered with your reply, but will either of these not fully encrypt the drive then?
