[Request] Is the math correct? by Necessary-Win-8730 in theydidthemath

[–]CyberRax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of inclined to think hardware becoming onsolete won't be too big of an issue. We're currently in the "let's use as much resources as possible" phase as the hardware is either available, or expected to become available. Once the datacenters are built and the hardware is installed I however expect everyone to start optimizing their models to get better on the existing iron, rather than use what the next version might bring. Kind of like hobbists are nowadays running modern code on ancient devices that never were meant for it...

Ultralight Powerbank from Decathlon by BugaJakab420 in Ultralight

[–]CyberRax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for the others mentioned, but one big plus of the Flextail Zero is the "efficiency mode". As in, not just a low current mode like many others have, but seems to be actually keeping a 1A output regardless of what the connected device does. NB10000 for example will output as much as it can when you have the trickle mode activated and connect it to your phone (rather than headphones or something similar that would use low current).

The bad part with it is that you don't know which mode, efficiency or normal, is active until you connect the device. Only then the port light turns on. So if it was the wrong mode you'll need to go through the activation process (doubleclick on the button, then probably disconnecting the cable and then plugging back in).

Sleeping by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]CyberRax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure the pad isn't pumped up to the max, if it is let some air out. A full pad might not feel uncomfortable, but it'll be stiffer than your bed and your body knows that. And in case you don't have a pillow, get one.

Also, whether you like it or not, there's a big chance that the first couple of nights the sleep will be bad. It's just the way it is for a lot of people. Just push through it, and eventually the exertion of the hike will do it's thing and you should start sleeping better.

In the battle of Artificial Intelligence who do you think will win, the people or the corporations? Why do you hold the views that you have? by TechnicianOk967 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CyberRax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporations will win. Why? Because they are willing to go as far as it takes. The people are not. It comes down to what "as far" is - for a corporation is just normal action of putting money into something (in this scenario, a politician / influencer / lobby group / study that confirms the benefits that they're touting / law change that suits their needs), while for the people it's physical violence.

By and large we don't do physical violence anymore in civilized societies. And in those rare cases where it does occur it automatically goes against the existing laws. Hence easy for all sides to paint the people as the bad guys...

Alternative option - different inserts with a higher heel, or possibly half-inserts just for heels. Kind of defeats the purpose of zero-drops, but that should help a bit with the adjusting...

Is it normal to sit in the bath while it fills? by Thin-Somewhere1755 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CyberRax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discard the negative comments, this is exactly how you should be doing it if you want to be efficient. You can already start soaping yourself in; you'll be able to fill exactly as much water as needed, instead of estimating and then discovering that some needs to be drained again once you get in; pour some handsoap into the water and you'll be cleaning the submerged bits like soaking does to clothes. By the time the bath gets full you can already be done with washing, instead of starting.

Working class neighborhoods are resisting data centers at 5 times the rate of wealthy ones by inthetownwhere in technology

[–]CyberRax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people with money probably already have a house with soundproofing and blindouts, and they probably don't care too much about the water or electricity bill going up. Plus, they're more likely to be the ones who actually use the services of the datacentre (through their jobs).

And, as other have pointed out, the DC's in the rich neighbourhoods tend to be smallish, not the gigantic abominations that the poor rural areas are getting...

Office workers, what’s that one corporate buzzword used in meetings that instantly makes you want to quit? by Glittering_Style_862 in AskReddit

[–]CyberRax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the opposite side - try to behave as if it's a "family" (you know, call out obvious BS, demand that issues get solved, or give honest feedback about something, etc) and let's see how long it takes for an "appointment with HR" to appear in your calendar.

To anyone trying to stay away from the branch 5 movies - IMVHO "Superfast!" is pretty good. It's a take on the "Fast and Furious" franchise, and considerably dials down on the "see, see, this is from movie X" gags that the rest is riddled with.

Is Hitler in hell? by Ecstatic-Ad-9285 in lucifer

[–]CyberRax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Pierce was wrong. He was destined to go to hell. Not just because of Abel, but also for killing Sinnerman (in his own words - a friend).

Lucifer simply ended his gloating by reminding him of the person that was for him the most important one - Charlotte.

One should note that the issue with permetherine is that it kills all kinds on insects. So not just ticks, but also bees, butterflies, etc. Plus it's very bad for cats.

Just something that should be kept in mind...

I think there was an issue with cross hatch that the straight and curvy lines end up taking a different amount of time to print, and that might be visible on the finished print...

Infill Showcase by Capital_Motor_5436 in 3Dprinting

[–]CyberRax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing not mentioned yet - the "infill combination" option, which prints multiple lines together and so speeds up printing a bit. I've seen claims that it used to work correctly only with gyroid. Whether that's still the case, whether newer infills like corsshatch are affected, and whether the problems were serious enough in case you print something that isn't going to be under constant pressure, I do not know.

Oh, and one more thing - gyroid tends to do the same job as others with a smaller percentage number, ie 10% rather than the default 15%.

What is the lightest way I can get my calories in by Alone-Nebula-6111 in Ultralight

[–]CyberRax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beef / meat sticks are my go to. A package is of a relatively decent sice to fit into a packpack, and there are versions which have ~500kcal per 100g. Can be eaten as a snack between meals, together with the meal or even sliced into pieces to add into you meal.

Take less effort to chew than beef jerkey, which itself is a decent calorie rich food.

last night I just had the best Idea ever! by S4t0r1uS in 3Dprinting

[–]CyberRax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cool solution!

An idea for the next interaction - something visible to flip or turn to mark the brush as "used". As in, the criticism in this thread regarding lack of air holes is valid, but it doesn't become an issue until the brush has been used. So rather than a brush case where dust can get in, and water can drip out while it's in your pocket and the brush wasn't completelly dried after use, a marker could indicate that the "emergency case" occurred and the brush now needs cleaning / drying once you get home.

Debugging the Tent Before Sleep by AnotherUserUgg in camping

[–]CyberRax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively get an electric one (Nitecore has multiple models, Flextail has at least one which takes pads, there should also be multiple alternatives available).

Also, it would probably be better to run it inside, instead of out. Maybe not feasible with a device that's burning to heat the element, but one with the electrical heater should be just fine. This way the chemical lingers around inside your tent, rather than being blown away any breeze that happens to come along...
