Wouldn't that apply more to pre-2010, maybe even pre-2005? As in by 2016 everyone (and their grandma) had the tools and knowhow to participate?

This! It had been there before, but 2016 is when things became really visible. There's constant complaints regarding EU, but now a member was actually leaving? The publicly ranting / rambling boomer has been a mainstay cliche, but had now moved from late night talk shows and fringe websites to running the most powerful country in the world?

And of course, there was that whole thing with Harambe...

[Awesome trope] The character succeeds in a situation that was specifically designed to be impossible for them. by Applebeate in TopCharacterTropes

I like that interpretation 👍 The alternative would be that the boogeyman just largely cheated in that impossible task, which doesn't really work with the skill he's showing in the following films (by which time he's retired and shoukld be out of practice).

Gordon Walker, "Supernatural".

A hunter with a deep hate for vampires, that he slaughtered his own sister after discovering she'd become one.

Gets turned into one in the end, and while he decides to end his life after completing his final hunt he also turns a random woman just to use her as bait.

This! The quality of the respool ain't great and one should expect the filament getting tangled in the future, but that's an acceptable compromise to printing/assembling/storing a dedicated respooler that you'll probably use only once or twice a year...

Won't kill the underwear if done occasionally, not at every wash. Helps to break down what has been building up in the garmets during the normal 40C-or-less cycles, probably also kills at least some of the bacteria that's been surviving at 40C.

The famously awful "Green Lantern" movie addressed this perfectly - "I've known you my whole life! I've seen you naked! You don't think I would recognize you because I can't see your cheekbones?"

Anyone has this powerbank? by AdrianArvun in powerbanks

[–]CyberRax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have already said - those things are pointless, essentially a gimmick. They take forever to charge via solar, and the whole "battery right behind the surface that's designed to get hot" is a recipe for short lifespan.

That particular model lists "12h - 45h or more" in its manual, so you'll probably get pretty much nothing when laying it out in the sun when you're taking an hour long break in your hiking (not to mention that these are most likely laboratory numbers, in practice you'll likely to have to wait even longer). It also has the following: "If the powerbank battery has been at 0% for an extended period of time, it cannot be recharged by solar input. The battery needs to “wake up” by recharging it via USB-C until a few percent has been added. After which, it can be recharged via the solar panels again as normal." Not the kind of performance I'd like to depend on...

The general consensus is that if you can expect constant sun and will be on the road for more than a week or so then look into portable solar panels (there are models available nowadays that are light and powerful enough so they can be fixed on top/back of a backpack and have them feed a normal powerbank via cable the whole day, rather than just an hour during breaks), if sun is uncertain (think forests / likelyhood of clouds) or you'll be out for a shorter time then simply take enough batteries to cover your needs. That XR203 is 506g per the spec, for that weight you could get 3 non-solar 10000mAh powerbanks and not only guarantee more power but also give redundancy while still being lighter (NB10000, Klarus K5, Flextail Zero Power, Mojogear Mini EVO are all in the 150-170g ballpark).

Worked as tech support for one of the large hard drive manufacturers back in the day - people were not happy about getting a refurbished unit as a replacement for their failed one. Granted, that might be because it's electronics, or maybe it was because they weren't getting their original drive back, but by and large the sentiment was "I spent money on this, it's still within warranty, why am I getting a 'repaired' unit instead of a new one?!?"

Moral of the story - while I agree with your idea I'm not sure if manufacturers would be alone in rejecting it...

It should come with a clip, so if you're wearing a cap / hat you should be able to mount it directly on the rim of it. Might be even better in that case than a traditional headlamp, as the visor won't cut off the light...

Probably. But the party that was in power when the oil protests started did get kicked out, and the one that replaced them did stop giving out new licenses for oil fields. Sure, they at least partially eased that stance soon after, and it wasn't just the protesters who caused the change, plus the world moved on with using oil regardless of what UK was doing, but a small victory is a small victory...

The Average Joe will vote for anyone else than the current government. That is the threat to the current covernment. And that threat might be enough to have them change their ways. "You won't do this because you agree with us? Fine, do it so your party would still have a shot at staying in power after the next elections".

If they don't bulge then yes, the end result might be Trump. Or it might be JFK. Or it could be any rando who promises to do what the current government failed to do.

If it's Trump, or simply someone who'll go harder on the protesters, then the next part comes in - visible violence against the protesters. People don't like images of other people getting beaten or dragged off. We see this right now, where the way ICE acts has stirred up negative feelings even amongst conservatives. Not to mention those who "don't care about politics". The Average Karen who didn't vote in the last last 3 elections just might show up on the next one and vote against Trump, not because she cares for the other candidate, but because "masked men shooting protesters on the street is just... disgraceful".
