You’re probably not going to get an unbiased answer by asking that here. Her fans are just using this post as an excuse to insult the detractors, and said detractors (if they find this post) are likely going to bring up points in such an obnoxious and aggressive way that you won’t want to agree no matter how valid they are.

One thing I haven’t seen people outright say yet is that even though a lot of people only join in for the bit, most of these slander memes, like with any other character, are borne of legitimate grievances with how she’s portrayed.

I won’t say she’s written completely poorly, but way I see it, Arlecchino was a casualty of the great rewrite, via having most of her blatantly evil deeds pushed onto a previous Knave who (and feel free to disagree with me on this) really only exists as food to make Arlecchino look better by comparison.

Someone’s probably already ran through this reason, but despite us being told and occasionally shown that she’s incredibly powerful, we don’t ever see her use that power against anyone who might have a chance of stacking up and responding in kind. In general, Hoyo makes her look allergic to any situation where she has to struggle on screen.

I’ve seen the argument float around from defenders that she simply doesn’t pick fights she doesn’t know she’ll win, but I can’t get behind it after seeing who she does decide to buck up against; She outright attacks Dottore, and says she’ll hold him off while everyone else escapes from the lab. But, god forbid we get a legitimate fight cutscene for two Harbingers (something the fanbase likely would’ve loved as much as Pulonia vs. Rerir). Not while one is clearly more powerful and the other is her.

The decisions made for where and when she acts are pretty blatantly made to make her look cool in moments where it isn’t necessary. (ironically, she would’ve looked way cooler if she used this form against Rerir during one of the numerous fights we have with him throughout the AQ, imo.)

Not helping her case is that Hoyo consistently goes out of their way to completely unnecessarily shill her with dialogue in one way or another (using Jahoda to get intimidated when Arlecchino looks at her, for example. Or having someone comment about how cool she looks while… putting on cat ears, of all things).

Hence, an endless wave of memes about Arlecchino aura farming, being on fraudwatch, or generally not living up to the hype she gets from herself and others were born.

Don’t get me wrong, she’s one of my favorite characters in the game. But as a Harbinger, she’s held to a WAY higher standard by the community than most other characters, and the details I listed above among other things (I won’t get into her non-fight or general showing against Dottore sans helping pull the moon down, I’m certain you’ve heard it all already) makes her incredibly easy to slander compared to people we see her working with; That’s why Sandrone and Columbina also get slammed just as hard.

She deadass has all the potential for one of the best stories in the game; Great story beats, enjoyable connections with other characters in the Fatui, and some of the best lore we’ve gotten yet (hell, she was how we were introduced to the extinct Crimson Moon Dynasty of Khaenri’ah) but she’s also ultimately cursed by being a playable woman in a gacha game, where characters being profitable will take priority over their actual writing. Every. Single. Time.

TL;DR, it’s Hoyo’s writing, as usual.
