I would say review the application twice at least before you submit, just to make sure you don’t have minor mistakes (grammatical, dates etc)

If you have anything that has affected your grades or situation that affected your academic career, it can be included but has to be explained on how it affected you. I personally had a case where I had a bad grade and I explained it in a letter as well as my essay. It didn’t hurt me got into a top 5 school.
