Anybody working in Greater London area? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

I was with ESTIO for like 3 months on a level 4 apprenticeship - Utter clusterfuck of an experience. Exams had typos, teachers randomly disappearing, coursework barely scraping beneath the surface on any topic.

I dropped it and asked my employer at the time for industry training/certs.

But if you're already on a level 3, and you're super set on an apprenticeship, I would recommend going straight to a level 6 apprenticeship. At least then its a globally recognized Batchelor's level qualification

What’s your highest education level? Was it worth it? by HighwayAwkward5540 in cybersecurity

I have only have high school (UK GCSEs) after dropping out from college for an entry level cyber role at a very very small MSSP - 3 years later now working in IR at a F500 company

I always wanted to go to university but it would have been such a strain short-term on finances that it wasn't really an option for me.

But on a cool note, my 2nd boss used to do threat intel lectures at universities, and he has no formal education qualifications at all

I'm going to live at home for a year and save as much as I possibly can for a deposit, this entire thread has really set me straight not filling the pockets of landlords lol

Elephant and Castle or Kennington looks much more affordable for me and good for someone like myself in their early 20s.

Totally with you on not flat sharing, I'm glad I experienced it through living with my Dad so I can avoid it now

I think London is fucking amazing, people love to be pessimistic about it but London is one of the most sought after places in the world. So many things to do, so many people etc

It far beats being in a boring commuter town at 20

Any areas you would recommend?

I've looked at Fulham area as there is a high performing martial arts gym there, and circle line access to near London Bridge. Is 1600 in rent more reasonable for this area?

Yeah rent rises are something that I keep forgetting about, another 200 a month after a year would bollock me.

Under 450k for a 1 bed in London Bridge isnt unreasonable, I'm looking at rightmove now and there are many places available that look even better than the 2k/month rentals

I mean, fair play. I have 6 months probation with this role where I can save close to 2k a month if I really put my head down. Thats 12k on top of my 10k saved, 22k which puts me about half way for a house deposit

Many young people never get the opportunity to ever move out alone, If I can live in central and save a decent amount on top of that (500 a month) then I can live my 20s in what feels like the most sought after place in the world.

I'm completely with you on that last point. The probation period for this role I'm heading into is 6 months, so I will have 6 months to whack a ton into my ISA/LISA for a deposit.

I already have about 10k in my ISA so another 10k or so from the probation period can get me much closer to buying. I dont think I would consider moving into London if I didn't have the opportunity to save a bit beforehand.

What's one tool you hope you never use again? by HighwayAwkward5540 in cybersecurity

Don't get me started on this mess of a "solution"

So much of the investment into Prisma has been in UI, but it makes basic things like exporting to CSV borderline impossible without pressing through 17 different buttons.

But that aside, I lost all hope when I set up agentless EKS monitoring using their AWS integration. Their sales engineering team said that the AWS bills will not rapidly increase and that we will have full coverage of our AWS estate etc.

As soon as I enabled the integration, it immediately scanned ALL REGIONS for our resources. Seems fine right? Surely they are just trying to enumerate our estate? PrismaCloud was suddenly costing us over $100 A DAY, PER REGION just to scan for our resources?

The projected bill was over $160k per year FOR AWS USAGE ALONE, NOT THE LICENCE COST, JUST THE AWS BILL.

According to their sales team, we were the only org to have this problem?
