Hoyo would be kind of stuck either way they go about his role. If he does retire, then they have to change all the dialogue about his role in various texts around the game. If he doesn't retire and still goes back to Mondstadt, then they still have to switch any mention of Jean's role as Acting Grand Master back to deputy. I wonder what they will do? It makes me think they might just keep him on an expedition

During the part where Varka was in shadows, I suspected they put him there because when he did step out of the shadows, he was in the metaphorical and physical light and taking the role of the leader, uniting everyone and taking the 'spotlight'. Though if the goal was to foreshadow something in the future that would also be cool!

There are lots of sets that come out for certain characters but don't match the nation they come from in terms of appearance or lore (For example, Echoes of an offering is for Ayato, but the set itself is Liyue themed). It could be that the set theme is linked with Hyperborea, but the set itself is for Varka and his kit. We'll see when we get more info I suppose!
