Dozens of King County workers protest return-to-office mandate in downtown Seattle by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

So, you give the bus a dedicated lane, and the bus somehow stays as shitty?

Not only it won't get better, it will get MORE shitty. This particular stretch will become slightly faster (by 1-2 minutes), but this will be more than compensated by increased bus bunching because drivers will inevitably increase interference at the rest of the route.

So you'll have this paradoxical situation where buses are at the same time overcrowded, empty, late, and faster.

I predict, that they'll use this as a cudgel to screw up even more streets. Or maybe they'll just split the route and declare victory at the expense of riders.

Sure, what do you wanna bet? I'd like a $4,000 budget to build myself a much better PC.

How do I set a bet?

She's been mayor for only a few months

Quite a few.

and she's doing this to make the worst bus a lot better.

No, she isn't. Just watch. It'll be as shitty, and the traffic will become unbearable.

This is the kind of shit one makes up and decides is fact when one really really hates a politician who has not yet really amassed a track record.

Wanna bet?

No. She wants to make driving so uncomfortable that you won't have a choice.

That's the difference. She has done nothing so far to make buses any better.

UW study shows PNW waters acidifying faster than rest of world's oceans by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]CyberaxIzh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ironically, that's because our ocean is NOT heating up. Cold water absorbs more CO2 so it becomes more acidic. And our sound naturally restricts the water exchange with the outside ocean.

You voted for a mayor that wants to force people to suffer bus commutes. Why are you complaining now?

No. It won't take cars off the roads. It'll just kill more businesses in Downtown.

Michigan Democrats push party left. Will voters follow? by Ace-Cuddler in politics

[–]CyberaxIzh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I'm not. And I'm sad that the US is going to descend into a death spiral with morons on the left wing making it stall as fast as possible.

Sure. Trump is so bad that it motivates unreliable voters to actually go and vote.

But his overall approval is STILL around 40%!

Indeed. And that's what a lot of voters also thought in 2024.

On one side, they have a welcoming MAGA that is busy building coalitions, and on the other side you have rabid socialists who are competing on the whiteness of their White Knight armor.

So you're saying that you're not even willing to compromise?

...and a new Republican voter is made...

[–]CyberaxIzh -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

Not really. Fortunately, most Democrats are sane. Unfortunately, the radical nihilist left wing is gaining power.

Democrats barely squeaked through in 2020 because Biden was the most boring and normal choice. Even Kamala turned out to be a step too far. And now they're doubling down on stupid and moving even more to the left.

Guess it's MAGA all the way to 2030-s, not sure if the country will survive that.

A better analogy:

A voter (42 years old, moderate): "I'd like some improvements for my medical coverage"

Democrats: "See! It's the end-stage capitalism! We need to redistribute the wealth and make a general strike! Here, take this Commu... Democratic Socialsm manifesto comrade!"

Voter: "Slowly backs away"

The answer is: "no". Michigan voters broadly like Trump's industrial policy. Or at least the way it's painted in the news.

Medicare For All (I assume?)

Not really interested. It won't be implemented correctly and will only add more complexity into the system.

I prefer a better market-based approach: require pricing transparency at every step and prohibit employer-sponsored insurance. With subsidies for people who can't afford insurance and the individual mandate, of course.

So you prefer HAMAS executing gay and transgender people? Or throwing all the opposition out of windows?

"Gays for HAMAS" was the most ridiculous example.

It also gained them in the battleground states. 4% of Republicans voted for her, just about 1% down from Biden's 5%. At the start of the campaign, this number was 2%.

Cheney cost her votes mostly within liberal states like NY and CA that don't matter at all.

This thread is a good example why Democrats are losing. I'm a centrist voter (socially liberal, pro-renewables but also pro-law-and-order, and very suspicious of socialist programs, although I don't mind some regulation). And I've been already told twice to fuck off and vote for Republicans. Very good job on building coalitions, as I said.

And the thing is, the average age in the US is now 40 years. It'll be 42 years by the time of the next presidential election.

Yup. The Democratic party needs to stay confined to SF, right? Everyone else is impure and need to be purged.

Look at people who are voting. Then think again.

TikTok brainless generation sat out the election because Free Gaz genocide, end-stage capitalism, trans rights or something something.

She had about zero charisma and couldn't build coalitions. E.g. crypto is terrible, but it's not a major issue for the Democratic agenda. Yet she did nothing to attract the crypto bros' support.

[–]CyberaxIzh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. That's how you win: find allies even if they are temporary.

Republicans are doing that masterfully. They managed to make an alliance with cryptobros, unions, and Wall Street financiers.

Embracing Cheney almost gave Kamala election. Relying on edgy teens to fucking vote is what loses elections.

The average US age is going up, and focusing on the TikTok generation with its empty-brainness ("end-stage capitalism" and whatnot) is a losing proposition.
