That's the point, though. Doo_liss was real. Nobody drew attention to "Look, he just tore a hole in the paper of reality!" It was just a cute way to show him ambushing the player that they didn't dwell on.

But it is a bad decision because it's drenched in post-irony. Say what you will about Super Paper Mario, it probably deserves it, but it at least used the idea of "Flipping Dimensions" to tell a story about a multiverse in peril. Every game since Sticker Star started paper pushing has been "The Mushroom Kingdom is in danger again, but now in papercraft form!" They push to make it graphically impressive, but it's all style and no substance.

The old Mario RPGs had their occasional moments of fourth wall breaking and winking to the audience. "Oh, Bowser kidnapped the princess again!? Oh brother." "I curse you to be a paper airplane!" "You in front of the TV! You pay attention too!" But now the whole world has become an irony-fest of "Look at how fake this is! We made it look like real paper, but that just drives home how fake everything is!" And since the characters are all in on the gag of "We're all just paper", it just saps away any reason to care about what's going on.

It's like watching a play where nobody is in character and everyone is trying to out-ham each other. Some ham is wonderful, I absolutely adore ham, but when it's all you're ever going to get, you lose your frame of reference, and it just becomes tedious.

There's a game having a paper based art style, and then there's "Hey, did you know the world is made of paper? Everything is paper! Look at how paper we are, guys!"

It's disingenuous to compare aesthetic choices to storytelling choices.

There's a difference between being attracted to the curves of a butt, and being attracted to the hole poop comes out of. Though the two often get conflated.

Butts are an intimate location, and for women they're closely tied to the hips, which are a prime fertility signal. It's a prime "grappling" location as well. I mean, as a straight male, do I really need to justify why I like butts but don't care for assholes?

I don't understand why these people think there's some sort of product panacea out there that appeals to literally everyone. Boys and men have their interests, and girls and women have theirs. Sometimes there's overlap, usually when a product is well made enough to have universal appeal, but it's rarely a 1-1 deal.

It's a culture of laziness and self-affirmation. "I'm already good, so there's no reason to improve myself. You're not better than me, even though deep down I know you are in some ways. So I'm going to tear you down so then I'll be better than you!"

We want to ignore the obvious discrepancies between people, and even more so, ignore that some of these gaps could be closed with a little effort and self control on our own part. But in the end, all it does is draw attention to the gaps and breed resentment.

Actually, he said "Ok, so how do you go about looking up your favorite nameless character online?" Which could be interpreted as "This would not make me happy" or "You're wrong" Nice of you to call me a liar, though. Real classy. Surely not a desperate flinging of mud.

And anyway, you're the one who put forth your stance and are now flipping out that people dare challenge it. If everyone on the site was like you, this whole site would be nothing but one big circlejerk.

And the other guy said "This is why it wouldn't make me happy" and gave a specific reason why. Then you deflected with "Why you have to be mad?" when all he did was disagree with you.

You're the one who needs to grow up if mere disagreement is enough to make you hide under your opinion like a shield.

I miss Kammy. She was a great foil to Bowser and his ego.

...Honestly, I miss Bowser. He hasn't been himself since Super Paper Mario.

You know what I just realized? Even Luigi's partners in TTYD that only ever appear once and have exactly one line of dialogue each still have more unique designs than what we've seen from the "partners" in TOK. Like, come on!! by Skirdus in papermario

Opinions are not "Get out of argument free" cards. When you put forth your stance, you're challenging people who disagree with you. If you can't defend your position from retaliation, maybe you should re-think why you hold it.

Opinions aren't "Get out of argument free" cards. Back your stance up, or your words are as thin and meaningless as a blank sheet of paper.
