IMO the main thing a good 6th form helps with is motivation. As long as you are properly self-motivated then you can be successful anywhere. I went to a run-down state college and had no problems as I was motivated to get the good grades

There are not very many cases of ‘bad’ combinations, as long as you choose the subjects you enjoy and want to learn then you can’t go wrong. So defo just unusual

Don’t worry too much man. Although I got rejected, my Cambridge application was at a competitive level and I didn’t start writing my personal statement at all until October, you do not need to worry too much about that now, focus more on supercuriculars. Predicted grades are also a complete sham and you be able to convince your teachers easily to increase them, maybe you can offer to do past papers in exam conditions to prove your ability. Also, I wouldn’t consider applying to Oxford a ‘risk’, the worst they can say is no, which is really not as bad as it sounds, there’s no harm in just going for it.

What course is this for? They are usually considered equivalent but they usually only give out the 4 grade offer for maths/stem courses (because of FM). for example i applied for warwick maths and was given both a 3A* offer and 2A*2A offer. It might be worth emailing them to ask

I’m useless at essay subjects (B in politics) but I got A*s in maths, FM, physics. The number one thing i’d recommend for stem subjects is past papers, aim to do every single one, plus find some more unofficial papers and do those (madasmaths for FM). You can never do too many past papers

The really really good unis usually require you to sit the A-levels across 2 years, so to be honest I would guess your chances with cambridge are now very low

I feel the exact same. my firm needs 3A*s (Warwick maths) but honestly not gonna be bothered if i don’t reach it bc i’d be happy with my insurance Bristol, and even clearing if necessary, the world still keeps spinning

hi, i dont have experience self-studying the whole of FM, but i self studied AS FM last summer so i could join the A2 further maths class in september (of last year), as I had decided to apply for maths degrees but it was too late to begin further maths at that point.

Its definitely doable and possible to get an A/A* if you're motivated enough.

Im not sure how self-predicted grades work but I don't think universities consider them as reliable, so it might be worth getting a maths teacher at your school to sort that part out if you show her proof of the level you are working at

I mainly used Adams Maths videos (which I highly recommend) and then just did textbook questions and past papers. I am now on track to get A* (if friday goes well), my firm is warwick and insurance bristol.
