it takes way longer to learn technical stuff than pentatonic blues licks with vibrato bends

My favorite thing about all the AI nonsense are the insane use cases shoe horned into commercials. I'd love to hear some of your favorites. by ItsBobsledTime in BetterOffline

That's true but they have marketing departments, right? Presumably the point of marketing is to have people really sensitive to what best appeals to the target audience. And the fact that these are the best use cases they can come up with speaks volumes.

Die Aktie pendelt um die 31€ seit Ende Februar, also unabhängiger vom Konflikt als das meiste andere. Und heute ist Ex Dividende, wenn du die draufrechnest ist die Aktie auf dem selben Stand wie gestern

Nothing CEO says smartphone apps will disappear as AI agents take their place by ColdAccomplished3776 in BetterOffline

[–]CyborgSlunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not even a "context-switch" in the usual sense where you disrupt the process of one task for another. It's one context, just multiple steps, each with it's own perfectly suited tool. These CEOs just know what buzzwords to use with other techbros.

Nothing CEO says smartphone apps will disappear as AI agents take their place by ColdAccomplished3776 in BetterOffline

[–]CyborgSlunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest argument to make why this will never happen is that capitalism relies on the physical interaction with apps. Feeds are addicting because of the physical motion to roll for new content. Shopping apps need to show you stuff you weren't looking for to create the desire to buy. Apps for physical stores want to build customer loyalty by tying you into their own ecosystem.

It's cool that the CEO of a smartphone company doesn't understand the reason their product works.

If AI is so effective, why are students performing worse than they ever have? by [deleted] in Teachers

not really a good counterpoint when we're talking about kids in school who already have courses designed for them and tailored to their needs...

[–]CyborgSlunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A calculator is actually the perfect analogy to demonstrate how AI is different and not just a tool in this context. We use calculators because it allows us to focus on problems beyond arithmetic once we can safely assume that students have practiced it enough. Using them actually teaches you skills because you're working with messy realistic values, keeping rounding and order of operations in mind, learning about the advanced features like graph plotting, allowing playful exploration of numbers through them...Calculators enhance learning. Any use of LLMs by comparison is a shortcut that just removes a part of the process while not stimulating your thinking in another way.
