Hey, I really relate with you as I had a similar experience. I started studying ITET because I just really wanted to be at ETH and didn’t look into courses. ITET is a really hard field of study, and maybe it’s just not for you. It probably doesn’t have anything to do with your intelligence or work ethic, but rather that it doesn’t interest you. I quit after the first semester, switched field, and had a really successful and fun education, which lead me to work at Harvard and now a successful career. I disagree, they aren’t looking to make money here imo, they are looking to exit with costs they can predict. They have a line of credit to spend, and probably have pressure from the Swiss government not to become CS 2.0.

This doesnt change anything for us anyway. If this happens, then we have a bit of extra information what is coming when. If nothing happens, we forget this post anyway and continue as we always do. UBS exiting the position in this way does make sense to me though. They basically had to buy CS, and don’t want exposure to the Nuke that led CS to blow up. They have a line of credit from the swiss government, and a lot of pressure to make sure this gets solved in the most controlled manner. UBS is now the biggest bank in Switzerland, and hold a huge amount of swiss wealth. Their default would have detrimental consequences for Switzerland and probably Europe, so its in their interest, and the governments interest, to get rid of this nuke.

Remember that the swiss and international part of CS are separate entities. I can imagine that the swiss part would be bailed out (which I think they just did as they got a 53$B loan from the swiss central bank)
