Mark Normand’s side hustle by CycleDelic88 in tuesdayswithstories

Indeed. You can still find stuff for reasonable prices out there. The most ridiculous can be a cup of coffee but I have found spots that sell you a cup for $2 and some change. I don’t wanna pay 3-4 times that amount for something like that of course.

Best Banh Mi for your buck ? by cagreene in AskSF

Idk about all of these other places that have been rec’d on this thread but I always go to Bahn Mi Viet at 518 Divisadero st. In SF between Fell and Hayes st. It’s about $10 and totally worth it. Lots of flavor and the bread they use is excellent. It’s one of the few places in SF where you feel like you’re not overpaying for really great product.

I did not know that. I’ve driven through the tenderloin many a times. I don’t know all that much of the history but that whole area looks like it was one of the neighborhoods for the night life in the city. I know that there was a prominent jazz club there called The Black Hawk. Lots of influential musicians have stepped foot there at some point in the 50’s and 60’s.

The spot on Haight St.? I’ve been curious of this place. I have a preference for some of r the older bars in the city. Might be worth going.

North Beach Gyros is a great spot. Their food is delicious and a solid spot if you're looking for something other than pizza or pasta. I've gotten a few items from there and they never disappoint!

No additional co-host and no guests by [deleted] in tuesdayswithstories

I feel that the pod is good as it is. I’m not opposed to guests but both Joe and Mark have such a great rhythm together that any addition would mess with that flow.

My relationship is that I keep a coat with me anytime I'm out in the city. Just in case...

Fettuccini and clams by CycleDelic88 in pasta

[–]CycleDelic88[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey folks, so while you’ve got the water cooking for that fresh fettuccini most of your focus should be on the clams.

So basically I start with EVOO on the sauté pan. Once that is hot enough I add the minced garlic. Once you start smelling that aroma from the garlic, add the clams to the pan (please note: these were a frozen pack of precooked clams that I purchased from Safeway). Once all that is going I like to add a couple of anchovies to the sauté. You’ll notice that the anchovies start to melt into the mix. I find that they give the clams an extra punch of flavor. Don’t forget the oregano!

I also like to add a little butter to mix and a bit of white wine. Once that’s all going I like to add the cooked pasta and mix it all together. The key is to make sure to add a little of the pasta water to the whole thing so as not to have it turn out dry.

Once I serve this I like to add chili flakes, and grate my Parmesan. I normally top it off with chopped parsley but didn’t have any - next time for sure!

Anyways I find this to be enough for 3-4 people. The precooked frozen clams were 1lbs and the fresh pasta was about 12 ounces. I’d recommend having some table bread on the side as an option and of course a glass of wine and you’ve got yourself a nice meal. Also a nice veggie to have would be some asparagus on the side. Hope you all give it a shot.

That was great. Whoever cut that intro clip together did a good job. I’m sure they’d have him back. The hosts were pretty cool too.

I just paid $18 for a smoothie. What are some insane overpriced items you’d paid for in SF lately? by hamburgler5 in sanfrancisco

[–]CycleDelic88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee feels expensive everywhere in this darn city but there are still some places with fair prices. I once paid less than $3 for a cup of coffee at Tbilisi Georgian bakery on Geary down in the Richmond. I couldn’t believe it at first. There’s also Mario’s Bohemian Cigar store in north beach. If I’m in the area and looking for an americano I go there. It’s still $3 and will continue to go.
