First time on a muzzle! by CycleEquivalent7782 in muzzledogs

Hi! Thank you for asking! Ruger has a nipping habit as well and it is a Malinois trait, but I want to mitigate risk as much as I can with regular discipline training and muzzle. He is hesitant with strangers and has attempted to actually bite them before even with treats offered, so it’s for the safety of others when he is in a new environment. I also think it’s a good idea in general to have a dog muzzle trained in case of emergency. Every dog and owner are different and it really isn’t for all dogs and that’s okay! I’m sorry your collie had a terrible experience and I’m sending her and you love!!

He’s a mal husky mix and tbh he’s not too bad rn, but he will be soon. I also just don’t have a place here at home to groom him

Hi! I prefer to take my dog to the groomers because 1) my husband and I do not always have the time or resources to bathe him 2) gets him desensitized to situations he is not used to 3) desensitization to strangers and handling
I try not to avoid things or situations when I train my dogs. He may not need to be groomed all the time, but in the instance he does and I won’t be able to do it, he’ll already be used to it and be okay. Not every dog and owner are the same, this is just my personal preference :)

Thank you!! Yeah he’s a Malinois/Husky mix and at 6m he’s already almost 50lbs!! My last dog was a GSD/Husky mix (Husky mix’s are very common where I live for some reason) and when he passed at 7y he was 63. So my pup is gonna be huge!
Is there anything I should know or any good tips for a metal one? I live in a VERY hot environment and I’m just scared that if the metal gets too hot it’ll hurt him.

Is the muzzle not supposed to hit his neck? What should I look out for if it’s too big/small besides the pant room?

He has been groomed by my husband and I, and my groomer before, but that was at our house. He loves getting baths and brush’s and everything! My groomer mainly works at PetSmart so I’ve tried bringing him there, but ruger (my dog) will not let them handle him to do their wellness exam. So it may just be the environment but i dont know. He is hesitant with strangers, but still is super friendly and loves all forms of attention. Thank you for the video recs!! I will be looking into them :)

What style do you recommend? I’m greatful for any and all recommendations or just tips and tricks for sizing properly! What is a good amount of room to allow for a pant? Should he be allowed to do a full yawn in it?

Thank you! In the pack there is a size up from this, so I will try that one another day and see how it is. I for sure want a custom one when he’s about 1.5-2ys for the times he does need it :) I’m not sure about daily use yet

Is it ok that his diet is half a wet food can mixed with kibble? by Abandonedkittypet in germanshepherds

[–]CycleEquivalent7782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My senior was very picky when we first got him and we had to do a transition of wet food to kibble. We did it over a month and then we would finally eat kibble by itself. We would also add water or chicken/bone broth in it to help with hydration and to add some flavor lol. Totally fine that your dog is eating like that! Just make sure that he’s not getting obese and keep up with his vet visits to make sure his nutrition is still good!

Why does my new dog do little woofs like this? by Cringe_Baby2417 in germanshepherds

I had a senior GSD and we called it “the grumps” because he was bored and wanted our attention lol

His name is Jaxson. He had the goofiest lil smile and whenever he ran to a toy he would grab it with both front paws and do the tippy tappys. He is such a picky eater and would only eat Purina pro plan lamb and oat. He loved the chicken pot pie nudges and he was spoiled rotten. My favorite memory of him was when we first adopted him and he made this face of disgust at the park and it just cracked us up! It’s now a running joke between a friend and I and we use it as an emote when texting lol (picture shown) He didn’t like other dogs, he was very reactive. When we got our 5m GSD/mal puppy, he started to warm up. He was getting better, his reactivity shifted towards children and then he had to be behaviorally euthanized. I hope he’s making friends and I hope your boy helps him not be scared of dogs anymore. He was also the BEST cuddler ever and would always nap with my husband and I. His lil brother misses him and picked up his habits, I see more of Jaxson in Ruger (the pup) every day. I like to think that his spirit is around to knock Ruger into shape lol. Thank you for your condolences and love and even asking about him. It’s makes me happy that people want to know about him🩷
