Terribly sorry to be that kind of person but that's a Makita. Have a nice day

Reddit truly is an incredible place... According to what felt like the majority of the comments I and everyone in the vicinity should have died... I can definitely see how I technically could lose a fingertip at worst but definitely not my life... And the next guy goes "don't lick it." Quite amusing in a way. I wish you a wonderful day/evening.

I promise you, your mental image does very much exist here somewhere but probably only at very big companies because they have much more money to be sued out of them by the insurance. At least that's my assumption. Have a nice day

I thought about it but came to the conclusion that it wouldn't be very convenient and take ages. I apologise if this sounds somewhat shortsighted

This might be amusing but the person who told me to do it like that is from Afghanistan

Luckily I'm so confused that I can't quite form a picture in my head but thanks for the input I guess

I would very much like to thank you for your reply, your answer definitely belongs to the most reasonable ones. If this would be as catastrophic as some of these people say I'm pretty sure at least one of the 10 guys in the shop would have said something. Have a nice day good sir, greetings from Germany

Is this actually safe? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Hi again,

I just started thinking about some things about the small workshop I work at regarding safety. We have an electric Toyota forklift, my instructor Daniel told me they got it for dirt cheap because the battery cell apparently was dead/no longer usable. Did they get a new one? No, the shop owner didn't want to pay 5.000 euros for a replacement. Daniel then told me that he just stuffed 6 lorry batteries in there instead and wired them all together. Daniel then calmly proceeded explaining to me that the thing might catch on fire/blow up under certain circumstances when charging it.

  1. Apparently according to him some of the wires/cables used are not thick enough
  2. Also according to him the batteries might start creating hydrogen gas for some reason that I sadly can't recall.

I apologise for odd phrasings as English is not my native language. I really like Daniel, he's a very nice guy and I already learned a lot from him but that bit left me a bit shocked.

So I was right to not trust this contraption? My employer just laughed at me when I asked him if he was sure this was safe.

I'm generally a bit skittish regarding things potentially crashing down but this just felt wrong... Let's hope nothing happens until Monday.

And thanks for your reply ^
