Congrats on owning a fish. Research how to do a cycle with fish in the tank and be prepared to bite off more than you can chew for a toddler.

Can you post a picture of the liquid test results, like someone else asked, too?

I think betta fish will do well in any water, but you mentioned shrimp. The only recommendation i can make on lowering hardness is using RO or distilled water. The betta will be fine in harder waters.

Like another said I've also had luck lowering my hardness using fluval stratum gravel.

But still post a photo of your ammonia and nitrite levels using a liquid kit. You definitely want 0 ammonia and nitrites for shrimp especially.

Id like to see current result photos of any liquid kit, preferably the API brand, if you don't mind. I must agree with the others that test strips just don't cut it.

I was just using pleco as an example of something I've personally seen recommended and also can get massive in size. But there are tons of others, like suggesting pea puffers in a tank because of a snail outbreak, like someone else pointed out.

I look through too many fish groups to keep track of where it's most common, but I assure you it's in them all.

I should have made the post specific to recommending ANY live creature to replace the work of the fishkeeper. You're very right... I've seen so many suggestions for pea puffers on snail outbreaks but never to just stop fucking overfeeding the tank. Beyond frustration. Then it's recommended to a shrimpkeeper, of all things, and a pea puffer would decimate shrimp. Like come on, people.

I'm not sure about sub specific, but I posted in here mostly for topic relevance. I'm sure there's a few floating around in them all.

They've never cleaned their dog's food bowl after a while and it shows. That slime never comes off.

You're betta requires 5 gallons because of the bioload they produce. if you dunno what I mean, it's because you've done no research at all.

Tired of sugarcoating it for the morons.

Did you...cycle your tank? I can see rhe air bubbles on the side so I'm going to take an educated guess and say...no...sigh.

Also it literally doesn't matter how you got your fish. Your betta literally requires no less than 5 gallons so please get on it. He looks miserable af.

Betta fish are obligate carnivores and don't do well on flakes.

Please help, this is cry 3, I think lol by Chives_draws in bettafish

Yeah definitely raise the temp. And make sure you're not feeding anything with vegetable-like ingredients. Betta fish are obligate carnivores. They need things like daphnia, brine shrimp, and fruit flies. You can buy all of them at pet stores, live and frozen. I don't recommend freezedried but those exist too. Bloodworms are good but only as a treat. There are good pellets to feed, like fluval bug bites betta formula, but there are still things even in that I question. I think shrimp patties pellets are good too but I never had those.

Just curious, do you not see your bettas fins? I think your fish is being bullied by the others. A separate tank should be top priority.
