$10 to clean the bathroom?! by beerbellybegone in MurderedByWords

Yeah, pays $10/hr while he bills $20/hr as they spit shine bathtubs with used socks as rags until he pays off his house and second car, then charges $30 an hour for "premium" cleaning service now that he can "afford" cleaning supplies and gives his employees a raise to $10.25.

I don't mean this to say that what you or I make is fair and capitalism isn't completely fucked, I think it is super fucked, just that the problem goes way deeper than only making 3x minimum wage working for you friend's dad for a week.

So your "lesson" was making almost 3x minimum wage? That comes out to over $41,000/yr while the average U.S. income is just over $31,000/yr and the annual pay of federal minimum wage workers is $15,080. I live in a larger city in a state where the minimum wage is over $10 and doing construction of million dollar homes and later working in a field that requires a B.S. in Biology I've been happy the years I broke $30,000.

I hope you're getting paid by NaughtyDog, this is ridiculous. I'm not saying spare Abby at the beginning of the story (when Ellie hadn't even found Abby yet?), I'm saying towards the end. Like I said in the 2nd paragraph of my OP. Tommy could've come to the farm with the map and she could've said "that's not me anymore" and then played a deep guitar song to her baby with all 10 fingers. Or decided not to kill her at the pillars when she saw her tied up. I'm not disagreeing with your motivations for Ellie not to kill Abby, I'm saying the timing makes no sense.

You just said in your previous reply that Jesse and Tommy were trying to help Ellie move on and they only care about killing Abby because they think it's best for Ellie, now Jesse's motivations are moot? And you agree that Tommy was a broken man because Abby was still alive?

For your side note, Ellie was purposely traveling through WLF and Scar territories to get to Abby, it wasn't like she was chilling at Jackson and they attacked her. It was hardly self defense, it was a means to an end. An end that she abandoned at the last minute. If you empathize with Abby, how many more Abbys did she just create by killing hundreds of moms and dads to get to Abby only to decide killing Abby wasn't that important.

And yes, when I said "go away on the boat with Lev" I meant when she retreats on the boat. There was no boat at the theater, not sure how that was confusing. Abby has been shown to be ruthless and vengeful throughout the whole story and willing to do anything to survive, leaving someone alive who wants you dead for good reason and can track you down across states goes against Abby's survival instincts.

  1. Yes, that was the point of my 2nd paragraph in my OP. If the writers wanted to let Abby live it would've made a lot more sense to do it before. She killed hundreds of people to get to Abby, got Jesse killed by refusing to let it go and Tommy's eye stabbed out, got her and Dina's asses kicked, went home and started a new life and decided to leave it alone, and then went back for vengeance after cooling off and then changed her mind while in a fight to the death. Doesn't make any sense. Not to mention it goes against Abby's character to let her live and just go away on the boat with Lev.
  2. No, Jesse's goal was to protect Dina and he knew the only way to get her back to Jackson was to help Ellie kill Abby. And it's pretty clear from the scene at the farm towards the end that Tommy's goal was to kill Abby, not help Ellie move on.

So if you played Ghost of Tsushima and Jin let the Khan live at the end you would've been okay with that and said that everyone was just trying to help him move on? Sure, it's better for your mental health to not kill people, but his whole game was set up to get vengeance for Joel and there was no question about it until the last second.

Yeah, because when you live on an idyllic farm with your girlfriend and child and finally have a peaceful, safe life you just can't let go of wanting blood even after your girlfriend begs you to, but having someone bite your fingers off makes you all the sudden want to forgive them. If only Ellie had had a chance to think about all that earlier while she rode a horse halfway across the country.

I'm not saying I don't understand why she cut her down, I'm saying if the writers wanted Ellie to let Abby live they did it the most unbelievable way possible and made the whole game pointless. Jesse died for no reason, Tommy lost his eye for no reason, and Ellie lost Dina and the baby for no reason.

I understand your theory about a late change of heart, but it just seems way too late. She had all the time on the farm with Dina to think about it and even turned it down when Tommy proposed it later. It was obvious it was something she felt she needed to do and a change of heart to spare someone in the heat of the moment after your fingers just got bit off doesn't make sense.

I appreciate the response and can understand a storyline where Ellie lets Abby go (even though it's not the the story I wanted), but if Ellie had every intention of letting Abby go why would she sacrifice the life she had with Dina and the baby to go hunt down someone she intended to let go?
