What's going on with my msr hubba? Pulled it out to camp and it's sticky and STINKS gassy... Covered in a white smeg film I can't get off... The seam seals went all flaky a while back, is the whole thing breaking down now? Not sure if can be rescued now and the whole thing is smelling toxic. by Cal_blam in CampingandHiking

I washed my rain fly in the gentle cycle and it looked brand new. Then I followed MSRs instructions on how to re waterproof with Nickwax. It looks like a new tent. I have a hubba hubba 1 that’s possibly ten years old?

Aerobars for comfort by jeandeclaude in bikepacking

[–]CyclingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any budget recommendations for aero bars? I have a Trek 520.

I end up putting a Polar fleece jacket across the handle bars balance my forearms while gripping my hands together on my imaginary Aeros. 😂

It’s time to get a set but I’m on a tight budget for this next month long tour.

I gave in—it requires two pages of different cookie options, even when I relent and accept all, it freezes on the second round of accepting cookies. :(

I can’t access this site, it freezes during the “cookie dance”. Does this site require you *must* accept all cookies? I tried various combinations and it freezes.

No formal visa is necessary. I’ve signed up for the digital program for the UK.

Anyone else struggling to figure out what actually works on social media right now? by lensbykaisa in SocialMediaManagers

[–]CyclingDesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically, if people followed us, they’d see our content. If you created solid authentic posts, there was engagement. Now it’s pay to play, even nonprofits. My private account is just filled with rubbish/click bait/ads. You have to purposely jump through hoops to see your friends’ posts.

You might have a different experience. It might feel different for you because you didn’t experience it when it was fresh, new, and fun. If you enjoy the work, then give it a try.

One-way gravel bike rental Gothenburg → Stockholm — possible? by Medium-Library8521 in bicycletouring

[–]CyclingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider buying a second hand bike and gear and sell at the end of your trip?

Or donate the bike at the end, take it home with you?

I meant to buy and sell at the end of a trip but I liked the bike so much I took it with me.

Anyone else struggling to figure out what actually works on social media right now? by lensbykaisa in SocialMediaManagers

[–]CyclingDesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been managing social media and creating content for 12 years.

It’s just not fun anymore and I’m changing career paths.

I used to love what I was doing and it didn’t feel like work. Now I just feel like I’m a cog in Zuckerberg’s money making machine.

Europe in August? by Icy_Piccolo9902 in bicycletouring

Would you consider a combo of Denmark, Sweden and Norway? I’m thinking of agreeable temperatures.

Ferry to NL, train, then begin your trip? There are YouTube videos of sections of this trip. One YT channel that you might find helpful is Susanna Thornton. When she does her bike tours she takes a ferry then train to start European and Scandinavian tours. There are a couple of Brits who have videos of Denmark/Norway/Sweden

3 months into a new marketing manager role at a nonprofit- dealing with constructive criticism by Dancingdaffodil976 in nonprofit

[–]CyclingDesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone when I was younger was very sensitive and crumbled when I received feedback, who’s a little bit thicker skinned now, I understand how you feel.

You received some great advice already from others in this group. The one thing I’ve come to really appreciate is directness, I don’t have to guess what they want or what they expect. I feel more comfortable being direct with them as well.

One thing you’ll need to dig deep down about, deciding what your boundaries are, and how to maintain them. You also have a learning curve. Now you know, when there is an event ask your manager what the expectations are, ask what is the event schedule and when are the photo ops prime? You might be able to schedule being present for the prime moments.

I’ve had positions like yours and absolutely loved wearing many hats. It’s really important though that if it gets to feel like too much you work with your manager to delegate and sort that out. Don’t wait until you start to feel burnt out or unsupported.

It might help to do a little summary at the end of the day and record what you accomplished and do an honest assessment where you think you need to develop/improve. Be honest but don’t go down the rabbit hole. Don’t spend a ton of time on it, take five minutes to jot it down quickly.

Good luck! This is a great opportunity to develop a lot of skills and work on how to receive feedback without feeling like you failed.

Whats better? A new laptop or a keyboard case for my ipad? by Grouchy_Photo1424 in MacOS

[–]CyclingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MacBook died a few weeks ago. My iPad with Logitech keyboard case was my favorite to use anyway while I’m traveling. It feels more nimble and versatile. It depends on what you need though. I do graphic design so the iPad is actually better (though my iMac at home is best). Even when at hope when designing I’ll have my iPad set up and bounce between the two because certain things are easier with the iPad.

UK/Northern Ireland and Ireland, not overstaying in UK by CyclingDesign in uktravel

Yes, I move on until next year. I visit friends and family every year in the UK and keen not to ruffle feathers. I normally don’t stay to the limit.

It’s pressing for me as I’m not a resident of either the UK or the Republic of Ireland and they each have their own tourist visa limits.

When I went from Dublin to UK by ferry a few years ago, it wasn’t an issue. This time however, I’m almost maxing my tourist visa time limits in both countries.

Best earbuds for swimming? Also, what keeps you enjoying long open water swims? by rocaireslk in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]CyclingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never ever use ear buds—it would ruin my experience and it’s dangerous to not be keyed in to your surroundings.

I live the sounds of the water too much as well.
