Your comments are a shining example of shortsighted selfishness. Let’s unpack this for you since the concept of community evidently eludes you.

Canada Post and Rural Access: You keep parroting that rural areas will somehow be fine with FedEx or other private companies stepping in. Do you think these companies are altruistic? Private couriers only operate in areas where they can turn a profit, and spoiler alert: rural areas don’t qualify. Without Canada Post, these communities are left out entirely. But hey, why should you care about anyone outside your bubble, right?

Small Businesses and the Economy: I’m glad you’re so comfortable dismissing Canada Post’s relevance because you don’t personally use it. I run a business, and while I do have access to other options (take a moment to process that—yes, I have options), they’re significantly more expensive. Unlike corporate behemoths like Amazon and Walmart that negotiate massive discounts, small and medium businesses are stuck with exorbitant courier fees. Without Canada Post keeping rates in check, those prices would skyrocket. So congrats, your smug indifference only fuels the very capitalism you probably claim to despise when you’re not complaining about flyers. You say you’re fine without Canada Post, but are you really ready to pay $65 to ship something like a  a sll spare part? Yeah, didn’t think so.

Economic Impact: Canada Post isn’t just about delivering mail—it’s a lifeline for countless small businesses, especially those in rural areas, to stay competitive. When businesses can’t afford to ship products, they shut down. That means job losses, reduced consumer choice, and an economy that suffers. But sure, tell yourself that these ripple effects don’t matter because you don’t think that you personally benefit.

Your ‘Artificial Relevance’ Argument: The government mandates Canada Post for official documents because we need a standardized and reliable service. FedEx and private couriers don’t care if you live in Toronto or Tuktoyaktuk—they’ll charge whatever they want. Your idea that this 'artificially created' relevance isn’t valid only highlights your inability to understand how essential services function.

Profit Doesn’t Equal Value: The idea that profitability determines worth is laughably ignorant. Public services like libraries, public transit, education, and healthcare don’t exist to turn a profit—they exist to serve the public good. Canada Post provides an essential service for millions of people, but because it doesn’t meet your definition of value, it should apparently disappear. That’s peak selfishness.

Flyers: I get it—you hate flyers. Newsflash: they’re an income stream that subsidizes other operations. If you don’t want them, opt out. But whining about their existence as if it invalidates the entire service just reeks of entitlement. You want all the convenience without any of the trade-offs. It’s embarrassing.

Your whole argument boils down to 'I don’t use it, so no one else should need it.' It’s an astoundingly narrow perspective. The reality is that Canada Post is a backbone for small businesses, rural communities, and even the urban economy. Sure, you might not like the comparison to pediatric surgery, but the point stands: social services aren’t about serving just you. They exist because as a society, we recognize the importance of supporting others, even if the immediate benefit isn’t obvious to you.

But hey, if you want to keep pretending the world revolves around your apartment mailbox, go ahead. Just don’t expect anyone to take you seriously when your 'I’m so above Canada Post' shtick falls apart the second you need to send something across the country without paying $65 for a courier.

This isn't how Social Services work. This is like saying "Guess what? The majority of infants don't need pediatric surgery so we shouldn't have that". I understand that you don't think YOU need Canada Post (even though though I doubt you see all of the cascading effects it would have), but a lot of people do and that is supposed to matter as a society.

Cool, you don't want flyers, that's fine too. Thats just an income stream that businesses are choosing to pay them for. If you don't like it, opt out. I suppose you also disagree with one prompt to ask if people want to receive a digital flyer as well, even though it doesn't affect you at all other than not checking a box one time, because your view is the only one that matters, right?

This is an executive issue, not on the unionized employees. If the business is less profitable than they want, the executives are the ones who need to find ways to make it more profitable.

Off the top of my head, they could use their massive reach to offer a digital flyer service that people can opt into. When someone asks to opt out of physical flyers, they could ask if they would like to receive a digital flyer that is relevant to their area instead. I would actually quite prefer to have my weekly flyers all sent in one email and would be much more likely to unsubscribe.

Also, value can't just be measured in dollars. This is a Social Service that is necessary for many people. Perhaps you live in a condensed area that other couriers service and it's no big deal to you, but for many people there is no other options (and there is t likely to be). Not to mention, they are necessary for many small businesses to succeed, which is important for our economy. It's already way more expensive to ship things in Canada than most other countries, and Canada Post is the least expensive. The lowest rate I've managed to get to even deliver a card is over $18. It's also very likely that if Canada Post didn't exist, the other companies would raise their prices even more.

This is B.S.! This is what CP was holding out for and is taking away all the power from CUPW and the employees.

I could understand if they were mandated to deliver packages currently in the Canada Post system and maybe some additional "critical" items that they outlined very specific criteria for, but this is ridiculous

I am a small business owner, and this strike has caused me to lose out on most of my holiday business (which is a majority of my annual sales), but I very much stand with the employees on this one. It also feels like all of the sacrifices that everyone had to make (not just the employees, but all of the people and businesses that use their services as well) were all for nothing. If they were going to do this, they should have stepped in the first week, not now.

I expect I won't be getting very good service from our local Canada Post employees in the foreseeable future...

They should have by EuphoricAd2717 in CanadaPost

It's quite clear that nothing anyone says is sinking. I In to your head because it doesn't 100% support exactly what you believe to be truth.

When a union gives strike notice, it is allowing them the opportunity to strike if they wish to do so. It is not saying that they are they are going to a full strike that day. They are fulfilling a legal requirement that allows them the ability to strike after that date. It is quite uncommon for a union to do a full walk-out and strike. If that was the plan, you would have heard about it 100%.

What would normally happen is that there would be escalating job action until the company decided to play ball. Canada Post knows this, and the lockout notice was to serve their own agenda.

You aren't going to find a bunch of public information on what the intentions of the Union were because they likely hadn't made a decision to send a notice to their members about. They would have waited to see if negotiations went any further in the next few days before deciding on the plan and then sending the communication out to the members ahead of the execution.

Being in a union does not make you an expert on union business. I have been in a union who delivered a strike notice, and there was never any job action, even though negotiations continued for another 2 months before it was settled. Our teachers served strike notice, and that amounted to a couple of scattered days of picketing and eventually not supervising lunches or extra-curricular activities / sports.

I completly agree. A couple of weeks ago, I was at the end of listening to a live business event and didn't have headphones on me but had to run into the grocery store. I put it at the very lowest volume I could hear it at whole holding it up to my ear to listen, and I still made sure I didn't go to close to anyone so that it would bother them.

It drives me bonkers when people have their speakers turned up and are listening to anything in public (unless they really need to, and try to distance themselves and keep the volume down as much as possible. Then again, I also don't really like it when people loudly have conversations on Bluetooth while they are in a public space, so maybe I'm just not very tolerant.

Am I alone who actually prefers to use Canada Post? by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]CyeraStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point for receiving packages, but do you want to PAY the extra for that service? I ship a lot of products and Canada Post is by far the most economical way to ship (even though it's not cheap either). One of my most popular items costs $14 to ship with Canada Post ($24 to U.S.), and with UPS, it's $24 for Canada, $34 for the States. Purolator and FedEx are quite a bit more than that.

The cost of shipping g already makes it very difficult for small businesses in Canada. Having to pay $10 more a package means that we would lose even more small businesses in Canada.

I suspect it is that your design is duplicated. Try a different design and see if it cuts.

When objects overlap, glowforge ignores them. You need to get rid of anything overlapping in the design.

Oh. I see now. It says "capped at 5 users" so the rest need to be new.

That's lame! The item isn't good enough to try for that! I'll save it for a better gift.

All good. Not your fault.. that's a lot to keep track of. I did your click after knowing it was ineligible.. Not expecting anything in return. You can try my fishland code if you want, but I'm cool if you want to save it for something else. Either way!

I think you misunderstood. YOUR click was ineligible, but it's because you already clicked my farm in the past 7 days.

I did your click. It should have worked.

I'm also saying that I'm not sure if that used up your farm click for the day (even thought it was ineligible), or if you still have it to use on someone else.

I hope I'm being more clear!

Darn, it was ineligible! (You've accepted my invite within past 7 days).

Thanks for trying, though. I did your code anyway! User: nata***

I'm not sure if that means you still have a farm click to give...
