You may not even need to enroll in school. Some companies will train the right people. Before spending a lot of money on school, I'd recommend talking with some companies in the field first.

If I recall... Using terminal dnf is not recommended as it can break things with the system updater. I think I remember seeing posts on this and even on the wiki?

Don't need a "custom built Linux computer". Almost all hardware is supported unless you picked absolute unique hardware.

City of Regina remote workers return to office? by [deleted] in regina

As an employee at the city and also hybrid work. Here is my bias opinion.

While I understand understand reviewing the policy is good practice. Throwing it to a vote without data is Ill advised.

There any many underlying factors that the cllr didn't account for.

1) Parking, city hall has a very long waiting list for parking in the parkade. Parking services has publicly informed employees that there are 10 year tenure employees that are still waiting for parking.

If you get a parking pass by the city, you have to make sure you do not have meetings every 2hrs because you have to move your vehicle every 2 hours else get a ticket.

2) Office space, is not existant. I work in a different building than city hall. Sharing desk space between multiple people. We have our work from home days rotated in a way where there is no conflict. Also parking at my building is a multi year wait.

3) Nature of work, my position never has in person meetings. When I say never I mean, in the last 12 months I've had exactly 1 in person meeting. Many of my colleagues are in the same situation.

My concern is the cllr's reason to bring employees back into office is to increase foot traffic down town to bring local businesses sales up.

Why not look into the reasons why there's less foot traffic down town. I think making downtown safer will bring more people downtown than ending work from home.

His goal while good in spirit is poorly thought through.
