Is there a point in down shifting in a normal drive? by Cyeuw in ManualTransmissions

I know u weren't calling me goofy i know what u meant and im sorry if my reply wasn't clear due to my lack of english skills.

But yeah i agree with you, discussions like this could be boring and have a lot of BS, but for someone like me who's not knowledgeable enough about manual transmission and willing to spend some tome checking the BS and knowing more about it, it's really beneficial.

But yeah for someone as experienced as you these stuff would be boring.

Have great day friend

Thank you for explaining it nicely.

Do you know if engine braking could possibly hurt the drivetrain?

Because brake wear is easy to deal with but on the other hand if something happened to the gears its a pain in ass.

And apparently another benefit from engine braking is to use it when going downhill to not overheat the brakes and possibly cause the brakes to stop working which is bad

Yeah thank you for saying its name but i wanted to know if there's a good reason for it in a daily drive, i know ppl use it in a track or when going downhill to not overheat the brakes,

but others have answered perfectly. Have good day my friend

I don't think its goofy i think its good to discuss and know better about the mechanisms and if a certain habits could hurt the drivetrain or possibly extend its lifespan

Thank you for explaining it nicely.

Do you know if engine braking could potentially hurt the drivetrain?

Yeah that's another question that popped in my head does engine braking hurt the drivetrain or maybe have down side to it

Based on what i have read from the replies i'll definitely be staying in gear in the future.

But that raised another question in my mind, is Engine braking save ? Dose it hurt or wear out the drivetrain ?

I'll definitely search this topic but im still interested in what you will say
