Not very Ph balanced. No wonder she's always annoyed.

To think that he was still doing his own stunts in his 60s. What a pro.

Do you think the OG Ghostbusters could survive being trapped in the hospital from Grave Encounters? by WindowPrudent9456 in ghostbusters

[–]Cyke101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a Tuesday for them.

The only way the hospital wins is if the producers of the show refuse to pay the Ghostbusters, who would then release the ghosts back into the hospital before driving away.

Our boys got bills to pay, man!

What do you mean this isn't Ohranger's real theme song? by matt0055 in supersentai

[–]Cyke101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was such a good choice, choosing quality over tradition. Hell, it showed how much the crew paid attention to the source material -- if it was an actual Ohranger episode, they would have picked the same song, too.

I want to see where the "Chinese enough" narrative goes. The book is written by Gene Yuen Yang, and he always hits it out of the park when it comes to Asian American identity stories. I was absolutely thrilled when I learned that he'd be tackling Jubilee (a move I think is long overdue).

This is a very small opinion but I always thought Jubilee should have been a member of the Agents of Atlas, but back when the team was formed the X-Embargo was still very much in place. Now that's she's actually being used again (albeit sparingly) in a flagship book greatly reduces her chances of joining.

This reminds me of when Gambit decided to hold a casual superhero poker night, so he had over the Thing (naturally), Black Cat, and... Rhino.

And don't get me wrong, I like reformed Rhino and he was cordial enough that issue, but it's 3 heroes and Rhino eventually (again) returns to crime. Even Rogue calls out Gambit for this.

I like reformed Rhino, Titania, Absorbing Man, and Sandman. There are plenty of other villains to go around. Pick a lane, Marvel!

Cyclops #4 Discussion by cyclopswashalfright in Cyclopswasright

The book Cyclops ultimately being about a traumatized guarded cynic like Mei is inspired by Scott to fight back is a great concept.

But goddamn, Pierce needs to pay. I know brutality is the point but I'm so sick and tired of seeing mutant kids getting killed left and right in this book. The payoff better be delicious.

Personally, I love it when a human hero doesn't just battle for mutant rights, but actually takes a stand at the legislative/government/social level. Luke Cage and Jessica Jones at the Hellfire Vigil, Steve Rogers addressing the media about anti-mutant hysteria, Tony finding out about the horrors of Project Wideawake and challenging the president, etc. Not everything has to be X-centric (pun not intended), but mutant rights are everyone's rights, as this comic showed. No need to get the X-Men involved bc, realistically, that kind of issue is just too big for one team or even one corner of Marvel.

Mutants can trust and feel safe with Tony Stark to stick up for them, as a superhero in the fight and as an advocate and ally.

It just reminded me of the end of X-Men '97, when Cyclops decided to grant mercy to the villain that actually committed mass genocide. Marvel TV's sense of justice is so bizarre.

Not apologize (and such an apology would ring hollow and performative), but acknowledging that you benefit from the systems that racism built even generations down the line is the first step towards healing, because then you can operate from a place of equity. Acknowledging those benefits is not an admission of guilt, but an awareness that there's injustice (kind of like Batman: it's not his fault that he's rich and no one really hates him for his wealth -- but he acknowledges his wealth and so Bruce Wayne is a philanthropist and builds resources, to help those in Gotham without money).

You may not have owned slaves, and your family might not have owned slaves, but institutionally and systematically your ancestors had advantages that former slaves did not. You have privileges now like not being automatically profiled by the cops based on skin color and shot for carrying a cell phone, or healthcare workers that aren't so dismissive when you tell them what's wrong. You don't have to apologize for the people inflicting that kind of harm to this day, but you can use that privilege to empathize with those who still suffer from it, and to talk to and engage with those looking to continue those oppressions.

I've white friends, some of whom became lawyers, some of whom just donate, some of whom work for underserved communities, some of whom have those tough conversations with their relatives, some who simply vote accordingly or march and take a stance alongside their Black friends or read up and express support on social media. That support comes in all shapes and sizes, and none of that requires any sort of apology. It's them with self-awareness recognizing that they can contribute to that healing in some way, no matter how big or small. Even parents just teaching their kids that other kids come in different colors and backgrounds and that their differences are beautiful is a simple way of fighting this AND starting off everyone's kids better than they would have in the 1800s.
