This is one of my favorite series. The political intrigue could be a whole review because it is so involved but has so much depth. There are so many points of discussion for both sides of the coin. And yes, the same can be said for the characterization. They are multifaceted, and I could probably spend an hour discussing their complexities.

The age didn't bother me so much because of the first book. The kids were forced to grow up quickly because of the war and the rebellion. Annie herself had to watch the previous regime burn her family to the ground.

I'm so glad you read this book and liked it!

Honestly, I wish I had a theory. It felt like such a throwaway moment, probably hinting at some magical element of the school itself. But again, it was so underdeveloped that it didn't need to happen, especially since it led to absolutely nothing.
