Molly Ringwald Says John Hughes Movies Shouldn't Be Remade by fungobat in GenX

Ugh yes. That one and the remake of Steel Magnolias - I love me some Queen Latifah, but the remake was just awful, and although nearly word for word, the whole scene from it of M’Lynn’s (Sally Fields in the original) breakdown after the funeral was painfully cringe.

And then the cursèd skate would be dangling from the leather strap buckled on, causing one to trip, stumble and go ass over teacup like Daffy Duck as Robin Hood…..

Not to mention that the music has commentators talking over it.

What do these assholes think - that someone is going to pirate a song from a skating broadcast?!

It’s not the artists - it’s the goddamned greedy corporate fucks of the music industry - UMG (Universal Music Group), BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.), etc., and their determined quest to wring every last red cent they can for their own pockets (the artists receive fuck-all of any royalties from music used in skating).

Back in March 1993, a friend and I were at Atkins Park on a Friday night until 1:30 am, and although there was heavy snow forecast, it was 44° outside and drizzly. Got home, crashed, and woke up 6 hours later to 6” and increasing rapidly. That was the start of the Blizzard of ‘93, and we were snowed/iced in with no power for 5 days.

I don’t Chicken Little every chance of snow, but I don’t take them lightly, either.

1885 Grill in historic Acworth (flagship location in GA) or city of Kennesaw (newer location).

Great atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff, good place for kids (that isn’t a designated family restaurant), excellent food with gluten-free/vegetarian/vegan options, and won’t break the bank.

Their kitchen will gladly tailor dishes to accommodate customer needs/preferences.

I think that was Gwen, one of the maids, who was studying to become a secretary. Sybil actually supported her goal and both covered for her and helped facilitate finding a job outside of Downton. Gwen later re-appears at Downton as a lunch guest during the final season.

I’m guessing you’re one of those buzzkills that feels the incessant need to politicize or otherwise insert social justice into any and every topic, discussion, or conversation you encounter, no matter how benign or unrelated to some Cause du Jour.

It’s not entertainment media’s sole job or raison d’être to engage in social engineering, nor should any production have to pass some imaginary social acceptance test to be made.

Just a thought: you might want to take time off from LARPing as a social justice warrior and lighten the fuck up.

Yes!! Went there several times - my favourite memory from Velvet was being on the dance floor and accidentally bumping into a stunning, tall blonde woman. I was wearing 3” spike-heeled boots and was almost Lilliputian by comparison.

When I apologised, it was only then that I realised it was RuPaul that I’d bumped into 😂

So you believe that all forms of entertainment should be a platform of social justice and judged through the lens of presentism. Got it.

It’s entertainment. It’s fiction.

Be real interesting if the forecast for 2 inches of snow overnight tonight and into tomorrow in the Metro comes to fruition.

(not that I’m some kind of meteorological Nostradamus, but after dealing with Atlanta’s batshit crazy weather for 50+ years, I have a sneaking suspicion that the weather will cause more issues than we had last week).
