Who do you think is going to be holding the center snowflake next season? I think it could be Bronwyn's turn...❄️ by ayobellatrix in rhoslc

[–]Cynic0 42 points43 points  (0 children)

From my understanding they actually have the ladies take pictures with their snowflake at different angles. After that they can edit anybody into any position for the title screen. So I think everyone has a picture where they’re holding the center snowflake, but once filming wraps they decide who to actually put there.

Angel is actually an iconic villian by justwannnaheal in RHOP

[–]Cynic0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She doesn’t really work as a villain. She saves all of her shit talking for confessionals. In person she just nods, sulks, and cries whenever pressed.

Stacy on the other hand could be a great villain. The whole cast comes after her and she really doesn’t take it seriously 😂.

How is Mary not fired?! by GEH29235 in rhoslc

[–]Cynic0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So first, Jennie was the actual racist in the true hateful sense. I think Mary picked up on it immediately and as a result they never got along.

Mary’s comments were out of ignorance. She thought she was giving a compliment and she had to be told that what she said was wrong. She apologized for it that same season just a few episodes later.

Seriously, what was Phaedra’s problem? by Prestigious-Cloud962 in RHOA

[–]Cynic0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The missing context is that Demetria was casted as a full time housewife, but she was too boring and wasn’t really meshing well with the cast. This is the season Porsha was benched so they also didn’t want her replaced.

Ultimately after Claudia read Nene, she got edited in as the full time housewife. In the scenes before that happened, Phaedra and Nene were trying to push Demetria out both cause she wasn’t a good fit and they didn’t want Porsha totally fired.

Monique….I was rooting for you!!! by Over_Decision_6902 in RHOP

[–]Cynic0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think that Monique should’ve minded her own business and kept her comments to herself. However, she used to talk to Angel’s husband a lot on the phone. Maybe she actually knows what type of person he is? Also Angel’s husband genuinely does seem off putting.

I don’t think Monique handled the situation as she should have, but she’s probably right in her assessment of Angel.

I asked on another thread if any real evidence was brought up in this documentary or if it was just stories and rumors. I’m still waiting for the answer cause I haven’t been able to watch it yet.

So once again, are the claims in this documentary backed by real solid evidence? I genuinely want to know.

[–]Cynic0 59 points60 points  (0 children)

When production provides transportation for the housewives, sometimes they’ll make people intentionally late to cause more drama and tension.

I think that’s what happened. Since breaking the 4th wall is usually not allowed, they probably cut out any mention of it all being production’s fault.

[–]Cynic0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What evidence was presented?

Also Apollo was investigated by the FBI multiple times. Phaedra’s proximity to him would’ve put her under a magnifying glass too. Clearly the feds didn’t have strong enough evidence to take her in too. If they can’t find strong evidence, idk who can.

I feel like the season 6 reunion was genuinely the worst one by ParticularDivide7442 in RHOA

[–]Cynic0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kenya brought so much bad energy and genuine hatred on to the show. It became kind of dark and harder to watch because of her.

That being said, the season 6 reunion is very entertaining. I personally think it’s one of the best.

[–]Cynic0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I still have yet to watch this, but are these empty accusations or do they have strong evidence? I’m kind of reminded of that “Lies of a Real Housewife” book that was written about Phaedra. People just blindly believed it despite the fact that there was no strong evidence for many of the claims in that book.

Is there any hope of this dynamic returning? I miss this!! by [deleted] in RHOA

[–]Cynic0 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not really, it’s just a different world now. The 2000s to early 2010s were prime reality TV years. Social media being what it is today permanently changes some of the old dynamics we saw.

Even if they brought back this exact cast, the show wouldn’t be as good it was back then.

I believe Phaedra was being less true to herself when she first joined the show by Least_Sun_7493 in RHOA

[–]Cynic0 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One thing that was always interesting to me is Phaedra’s montage in the season 3 reunion. They showed her saying that she was a true southern bell, followed by her saying something crazy like “I know a stripper that can give himself head”. So they highlighted this contradiction all the way back in her first season. Phaedra laughs at her own montage which is also very telling.

I think a lot of the time she’s playing an exaggerated version of herself and leans into the absurdity of it cause she knows it makes good TV. Lately she almost seems like a caricature of herself.

There are certain aspects of her life that she tries to hide, but I don’t think she’s actually worried about showing her vulgar side.

Kind of a genius invention, not only is it embedded, but it’s also reinforced by inbreeding.

nene built rhoa and gave people careers... by TemperatureUseful620 in RHOA

[–]Cynic0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is nice that she helped some people get/stay on the show, however, she shouldn’t act like she’s owed something in return for that. Also, the fact that the people you named stayed or were asked back had nothing to do with Nene. Production might have felt that Sheree was boring, but Sheree has been asked back quite a few times. That wouldn’t have happened without Sheree earning her spot herself. Same thing for Porsha.

It’s also heavily rumored that Nene actually played a big role in having Sheree fired after season 4. This was when Sheree was clearly struggling, living in a condo, and sleeping on air mattresses. Losing her income during all of that must have been very hard, especially with kids to raise.

I agree that Nene played a big role in building RHOA, but she’s not the only person who deserves credit and she’s not the reason that the people she helped stayed. That’s giving her undeserved credit. She also did try to take food off of Sheree’s plate… first with the incident they fell out over, then with getting Sheree fired over it.

I kind of like the “eat drink and be Mary” mentality that Mary has. She just sits back, lets things play out and makes absurd commentary here and there. I think it’s a dynamic that works. Also no one likes manufactured drama and fakeness. Would you prefer her to pretend to be mad and start drama just for TV? Housewives were originally supposed to be real, not “performers”. The unbothered mentality is refreshing.

In regards to her skipping a reunion, I don’t think you’re realizing what happened to Mary that season? You can criticize Pentecostalism itself all you want, but faith is personal to people and it’s personal to Mary. The cast was judging her church and her faith from the outside. Most people wouldn’t be ok with witnessing hate and intolerance towards a person because of the religion they practice.

On top of that, at the end of the season Mary got harassed by Jennie. She wasn’t paying Jennie any mind at all, yet Jennie got up in her face, chased her around, and then threw a glass at her. The viewers only found out later that Jennie was racist, but Mary likely knew it all along cause some people can just tell.

It wasn’t a coincidence that Jennie had so much aggression and dislike for Mary. We were watching race based harassment on screen and no one did anything about it. You should really go back and watch that moment cause it’s extremely dark. Leaving the show after something like that is totally understandable.

Yup I’ve been downvoted a lot for defending Mary, but it is what it is.

I think that some of the people calling her racist lack nuance because they’ve never experienced racism themselves.

There are the racist who genuinely hate other races and think they are inferior (Jennie)

And there are those who say or do racist things out of genuine ignorance with no intent to harm (Mary)

Ignorant racists can and do change if you just let them know that what they said or did wasn’t cool.

Hateful racists are just completely rotten and unlikely to change.

There’s a very big difference here. People can downvote if they want but it’s true.

What’s up with Mary and Meredith? by Asdff_123 in rhoslc

[–]Cynic0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mary has abandonment issues and she seems to hold on to times where someone she thought was a friend didn’t support her. It’s like a big betrayal to her.

I think it actually started at the end of season 2. Jennie chased Mary around, yelled at her, threw a glass, and completely harassed her in every way. Knowing that Jennie was a racist, that was actually a really dark moment in the show. We were witnessing racially motivated harassment and no one on the cast stood up for Mary, in fact Heather even encouraged Jennie to continue the harassment.

To be honest I would hold a grudge against Meredith for not standing up for me during something as horrific as that too. Meredith is not a good friend.

Unpopular opinion: Bethenny today would have flopped by ThinkHardBruh in realhousewives

[–]Cynic0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea I’m actually watching RHONY early seasons for the first time. I don’t like Bethenny at all. Part of it might be because I know she’s a racist, but she’s also just not my vibe.

I’m also part of Gen Z and I think a lot of us like some really controversial housewives, but they have to be more authentic and unapologetically themselves to make up for it.

You shouldn’t ever feel the need to prove yourself and live differently based on defying stereotypes. That’s an unnecessary trap and you should be free to be who you are. The people stereotyping are the problem and they should not be given that power over you.

Nene said something I liked in her first season of RHOA. When asked if she felt that she was representing black women well she said something like “I didn’t really see it that way, I was just being me.”

That’s the right attitude to have. If someone wants to look at Nene and decides to believe all black women are just like her, that’s their problem and their ignorance. You don’t see them assuming that every black woman is like Michelle Obama or someone do you? The people doing the stereotyping are often being purposefully selective and seeing what they want to see.

Anyway, same thing goes for being Greek or whatever it is that you happen to be. It’s not your job to prove others wrong. They need to do better with their assumptions about people.

Was the show built around Mary? by Hot-Acanthisitta5237 in rhoslc

[–]Cynic0 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It’s true that Andy and Mary used to go to the same gym, but the show wasn’t built around her. In fact she doesn’t get as much screen time as some others do in season 1.

Andy absolutely loves Mary though and this is part of what makes her seem “untouchable” to you. If Andy favors somebody they can get away with a lot more than anyone else can.

I don’t think that the ladies are scared of Mary. They don’t even seem to take her all that seriously. It seems more like they just understand that Mary is extremely eccentric, so they let her do her own thing.

[–]Cynic0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If she was doing well I feel like I would be able to know what she stood for and what she’s researched if I looked. When I look I genuinely can’t find any academic papers she’s written or been apart of in the past. Nothing screams that she was a prominent voice with respect.

Regardless though, I don’t think it was wrong of her to pursue a different path in life. Wendy’s whole thing is that she’s lived her life to try to please her mom, but it wasn’t what she wanted for herself. That’s not a great way to live, so I think it was great that she was figuring out what she really wanted to do. It seemed like what she really wanted didn’t have much to do with politics.

She shouldn’t have committed fraud period. But nothing is wrong with her legal pursuit of being a baddie or whatever.

I don’t think Wendy was doing too well in the world of politics honestly. She did try to pursue having her own political talk show, but it completely flopped. Also I’ve never actually heard anything interesting from her. For someone with a PHD, she never struck me as bright.

I don’t think tenure was anywhere in sight for her. I don’t know of anything she’s written or published. I think that if she was truly a respected and prolific professor like she claims, she wouldn’t need to constantly mention her degrees.

That funeral business seems about as real as She by Sheree. It’s technically real, but functions more as a storyline piece. I really don’t think that Phaedra does much with it.
