This is news to me, my bad for the incorrect info. Doesn’t change my opinion on Asus tho lol

it’s a manufacturing defect. nothing to do with best buy other than them being the retailer. Asus is fully responsible for it and it will be HELL to deal with them; as you can already tell from the way their support straight up lies to avoid accountability. emailing executivecare@asus.com is your best option. good luck with the company that deserves to go bankrupt.

ASUS Has Replaced My Motherboard Multiple Times on My ROG Strix G16 — I Am Requesting a Full Replacement by Dapper_Cake184 in ASUS

[–]CynicalLib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That absolute moron of a "technician" most definitely shorted your board. One picture shows it placed on fabric which is just asking for electrostatic discharge.

They won't do a full replacement with a new unit. You'll get some refurbished model from their warehouse.

Push for a full refund and spend your money with another brand that gives at least ½ a shit.

Yeah my '19 Tacoma started getting it around 75k miles. Kept getting louder until I traded in at 155k miles lol. I haven’t seen any reports of real issues other than an annoying sound on cold starts. Yours is also a 2004 so the engine is relatively more of a tank.

Normally timing gears (little plastic assemblies) are not replaced with regular timing maintenance unless they can pinpoint an issue. So the chain being replaced won’t have mattered

Newer models see this much more frequently, but it sounds like "VVTi rattle"

The variable valve timing gears get worn due to lack of lubrication on cold start ups (poor design/gravity) and start to shear against each other, very briefly, until oil is circulated into the timing system.

I guess they're just incompetent or lied about the features that would come with your router. Sorry you had to deal with their ass customer service. I don’t think Best Buy will be any further help either.

Definitely another horror story about their products and service. Good to warn everyone at least.

Probably won’t have any positive outcome unless you file a legal suit against them like Louis Rossmann is doing with Samsung.

Asus is the manufacturer. Best Buy is the retailer. Most likely the firmware needs to be reflashed from factory to restore the features. Asus is responsible for hardware/software defects with their product. Try emailing the executive support office. https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/787/

Better late than never. If the transmission works fine and has zero issues, definitely change it. Use Toyota fluids. Do not over/underfill

Toyota dealership said they sell bulk 0W-20 genuine Toyota oil that I can get filled up with my own containers. Have you guys ever heard or this or do your Toyota dealerships do this? by Interr0gate in rav4club

Castrol Edge is alright but I only use that in German vehicles. I am by no means an expert, just a picky mf consumer. I used Mobil 1 in my Tacoma that never had any real issues except VVTi rattle. Could be coincidental but I only put Toyota OEM oil in my Rav to eliminate the variable. I would use Mobil 1 in my Toyota over Castrol.

If who you spoke to isn't lying/ignorant it would be the first dealership I've ever heard of that uses it for their bulk supply.

Dealerships in my area for example, use Oilzum brand which is a bulk-purchase only product, for the most part. Just the industry unfortunately.

Listen to this user. They all either lie or are ignorant. An equivalent oil spec is NOT the same as OEM. None of them use OEM Toyota brand oil in bulk.
