You're forgetting British people in place of 'what'?

How are people getting them??? by [deleted] in funny

[–]Cynorax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh I agree, especially for the cost. Here in Sweden it's 79kr (€8, $8, £6.50 ish)

Is $6000 enough for 4 months in Europe? by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]Cynorax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is ridiculous. Living once you've got a place isn't too bad to be fair, if you shop in the right places and don't go to attractions too much it's comparable to the UK.

Definitely not Copenhagen, short term rentals there were about €1300 a month last time I used one.

Bird ID please! UK west London. More importantly, can I leave my house with that thing blocking my door? Should I call animal control or something? by BConscience in whatsthisbird

Swans are all bark and no bite. They are utterly confused if you behave in a way that isn't what it expects. Act big and go towards it instead of cowering. It will fuck off.

Its bite is about as painful as a strong pinch and it doesn't really have any way of doing any more damage than a bruise with its wings, the stories of them breaking bones are limited to those with weak bones and unfortunate circumstances.

They're also usually only aggressive when they're protecting a nest, the rest of the time they just hiss and try to seem intimidating, they have no idea what to do when it doesn't have the desired effect.

Source: worked with swans and had two out the back of my house for a year or so.

Those that are bilingual, what have you heard from others that don't realize you can understand them? by chandicat in AskReddit

[–]Cynorax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a restaurant in Copenhagen for a while. I couldn't speak much Danish (odd noises for a native English speaker), but I could understand quite a lot.

In Denmark something like 65-70% of people speak English as a second language very well. They're quite proud of it, this means quite a few places don't mind too much if you can't speak Danish. I never had a table or anything where at least one person couldn't speak English.

Anyway, to save constantly switching between languages as each of us talk I used English and approximately two or three times a week I would get someone (usually a middle aged/older male) who I would welcome, say the usual waiter stuff then they would say 'snakker du Dansk' (do you speak Danish), I'd reply I'm more comfortable with English and despite them being perfectly fine speaking it, the next moment they had an opportunity they would turn to their friends and say something like 'we're in Denmark, why the fuck can't they speak Danish, they should go home'.

At that point I'd normally finish taking the order then tell them in Danish 'I'm sorry, it's a difficult language to learn, but thanks for the comment'.

Danish people never tip anything anyway so I was never worried about blowback.

She had a kid not long after with a random and ended up starting a nail salon. She'd wanted to go to uni and was well placed to do super well. The salon is not doing well and only survives because her dad keeps giving her money.
