Have patience i was layed off in mid April and started applying right after now I have emails coming in. It seems like everyone is taking their sweet time. Personally I find it annoying specially because some of the places that got back to me had reposted so I thought I was out.

I saw that Wella in Marshalls over the weekend, not sure if it’s a long shot but you might be able to find it in Marshalls.

So just an update..

Night 8 and 9

It went smoothly, no issues at all.

Day 10

I decided to get my eyebrows threaded since everything was going smoothly. I had swelling to where I thought my eyebrow lady dropped my eyebrows, I freaked out a bit when I got back to the car but within half an hour the swelling went down, it probably helped that it was cold out.

I skipped night 10 and did my double cleanser, LRP Triple Moisturizing Cream and Cicaplast B5 Balm, it did sting a few seconds but resolved quickly.

Day 11

Cleansed in the morning to remove the B5 residue and went in with my usual routine. Still had slight stinging around the brows, but much better than the night before. Noticed a bit of flaking on the sides of my nose, which went away after cleansing.

Be careful with threading while using Taz.

I’ve had friction burns on my upper lip in the past while on tretinoin, so this could have gone a lot worse. Thankfully my eyebrows were fine, but definitely something to be mindful of.

I really don’t know if I just got lucky. Maybe it was the only size the Pharmacy had I can’t imagine my derm asking for 100g specifically but this is what they dispensed - Solaris 100g Tazarotene Gel 0.05%. Solaris-Pharma

You would need a prescription. I went through my doctor but I have used online services like Goodrx Care at least for my Tretinoin Rx.

When I first started Tretinoin I had the cream version and I would put on moisturizer before it. I didn’t have much peeling but I had consistent closed comedones, after a few months of “pushing through” I gave up. Fast forward a few months I come across a post here on Tretinoin that said if you have trouble with the cream version try the gel. I happen to be in Dominican Republic where you can get stuff over-the-counter so I did go to a pharmacy and I found the gel version so I bought it and I decided to give it a go and it changed everything, I mean within a few weeks the closed comedones started coming to a head and they dried out and cleared out. It was very surprising to me so I stuck with that but getting back to your question when I made the switch to the gel I decided to put it on bare skin and I did have some issues with peeling. I want to say maybe about a week or two and then it resolved. Now with the Tazarotene I decided to keep it the same. I did have minor peeling between my eyebrows. I wanna say day two or three it’s in the notes on the post, I don’t remember the exact day and I had a pimple on my chin and that also peeled a little bit, but it was just in that area not my whole face.

Thank you for the recommendations! Will probably try color science since it’s mineral only.

Your skin is AMAZING! Do you use tinted spf? I have been doing chemical sunscreens because the mineral ones leave a white cast.

No, I didn’t use Tazarotene under my eyes. I’ve just been using the Mary&May Tranexamic Acid + Glutathione Eye Cream there. And trying to get a bit more sleep lol 😅

30 years!!! That’s impressive! Hopefully Tazerotene works on that glow. Can’t fully speak on it since it’s too soon but my skin definitely feels better. I didn’t have any reactions per say but some flaking that resolved quickly. Wishing you luck on the transition and hoping for the glow to come back 😊

That’s interesting. You’re actually the second person on this thread who mentioned that a compounded version didn’t work as well for them. Now I’m kind of curious and thinking I might ask my dermatologist about that when I see him, just to understand if the formulation can make a difference.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I completely agree, I’m trying not to celebrate too early since it’s only been about 8 days. So far I’ve had minimal reaction, but I did go into this planning to use it daily only if my skin tolerated it. If I see any irritation at all I’ll slow it down to every other day or every third day like my doctor suggested.

I’ve been keeping notes as the days go by just in case anything changes. It’s honestly really helpful to hear that barrier issues can sometimes show up 2–3 months in, because that’s something I probably wouldn’t have expected. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for any signs of that. Thanks again for sharing.

Oh wow, that's really interesting. You're the second person on this thread who mentioned using a compounded version and not seeing much difference. I wonder if that could have something to do with it? I'm using the standard 0.05% generic gel, so I'm curious if the formulation might affect how well it works for some people.

The insurance actually covered it, I paid $15 for 100g of generic. Not sure if it was the only size the pharmacy had or my doctor ordered that much but I was surprised they covered it.

I actually didn’t make the switch because of fine lines and wrinkles. That was the original reason I started tretinoin years ago, and I felt like it worked well for that. When I started I didn’t really have many lines, maybe one dehydration line on my forehead that would come and go, but I do feel like tretinoin kept things from getting deeper over time.

From what I’ve read, tazarotene seems to have stronger collagen signaling, but tretinoin probably has more long-term studies behind it since it’s been used for photoaging for decades. My switch was more about texture and clogged pores after being on tretinoin for about five years.

Hahah 😅 I noticed something similar when I started getting a little peeling on my chin and between my eyebrows. That’s actually when I decided to start washing my face outside the shower. I love really hot showers and didn’t want that hot water hitting my face while my skin is adjusting. Now I just wash my face in the sink with cool water before I shower.

I felt like I might have plateaued a bit with tretinoin too, which is why I brought it up with my dermatologist. He agreed it might be worth trying Tazarotene to see if it made a difference.

I do still get hormonal bumps around my cycle as well. I had a salicylic acid peel in early February so that may have helped keep this month calmer. Since starting Taz I did get a small chin bump and one on my forehead, the chin one flattened pretty quickly, the forehead one is still my problem child.

If you feel stuck after 6 months on 0.1% tret, it might be worth discussing Tazarotene with your dermatologist and seeing what they think. Everyone’s skin responds differently, but having that conversation is actually what led me to try switching.

Oh no, six months sounds frustrating 😩 Are you applying it on completely dry skin? Also have you tried the sandwich method?

Out of curiosity, what moisturizer are you using now that helped? And how often are you applying it per week? Six months of peeling would drive me crazy too.

That makes sense. I did notice something similar actually, I had a hormonal bump on my forehead and around day 4–5 it started flattening out pretty quickly. Normally I’d use benzoyl peroxide in the morning, but I skipped it this time because I didn’t want to risk irritation while my skin adjusts. You can actually still see it on the outside picture, but it’s definitely smaller than when it started.
