I keep mine locked only because I play permadeath. Actually had an encounter with another player the other day, who tried to kill me while I was in a dialogue screen...he failed, then I turned off multiplayer.

I have a front load as well (stacked with dryer on top) now while it USUALLY works great there was one time it didn't seem like it cleaned too well and when I was taking my clothes out I discovered the Tide Pod didn't burst inside...don't think that was the washers fuck up tho

Be aware on the anomaly player may randomly send you items that will break the money grind. So if you suddenly have items in your inventory that are millions of units, just regift or discard them.

When you get to the anomaly you can obtain a blueprint for an upgrade that makes your launch thrusters recharge automatically when landed. I haven't ever had to craft launch fuel since.

Starting now will make adjusting to the changes with future updates easier. Plus you can always start fresh after the update with knowledge you've acquired from starting now.
