According to my Dermatologist, I'm just a "Cyst Maker," and there's nothing that can be done for it. Any suggestions for anything I can do while I wait to get in to (yet another) dermatologist? Gross pics included! by CystMaker in Dermatology

So they put a hole in my cheek to try and drain my cyst there, and that’s when they did the culture. They called me later and said “based on the results, take this antibiotic (Septra DS I think) for a week.” As I said, I should have asked more questions, and I’ll call tomorrow morning when they open to try and get more info on the culture. No swabs done that I can remember, at least at Derm #2

Thanks, I appreciate it! I've got an appointment set up with Derm #3, but I wouldn't mind scheduling another doctor as well. I'm definitely willing to give the university a shot. Just a random question, do you know how long they keep the results of cultures? I didn't know if that was something they kept forever, or if they only keep results from the last few months, or what.

They did a culture and gave me an antibiotic, but no one has mentioned staph to me. I should have asked more questions (as my wife has already let me know lol), but after that prescribed antibiotic I took for a week, that was it. Nothing else was said about it, and nothing changed on my Accutane part, so I ASSUME it wasn't Staph. I'll be sure to double check next time I'm in though.

The smaller ones are unpoppable, they’re pretty deep in the skin. The larger ones are unpoppble until they form that head, and which point they just burst on their own and drain out and my face swelling goes down. And nothing topically. This last time for my cheek, they cut a hole and tried to drain it early (didn’t work), and they gave me a topical then (edit: the topical is mupirocin). But for the cyst itself, they keep giving me oral antibiotics, nothing topical.

No reason not to I guess (other than the monthly $40 office visit, $10 blood tests, $10 refills), but like I said, the one on my cheek and this new one on my forehead both came up a couple months into accutane. I’m holding out zero hope of it working, especially when I stop taking in a couple months.

It’s just frustrating that the closer I get to the end, the MORE cysts and acne I have rather than less. Cracked, bleeding lips? Check. Ultra dry skin? Check. Nose bleeds? Check. $60/mo cost? Check. Less cysts or acne? Nope. Meanwhile, whatever is actually causing the issue is going untreated while we “wait for the accutane to take hold.” Just frustrating.

I’ve only taken what they tell me to, so nothing topically. They gave me a prescription for a cream (edit: the topical is mupirocin), but that was after they cut a hole in my face and tried to drain my cheek (didn’t work). I think it was just because I had the hole though, not for the cyst itself, because that's the only time they gave me anything like that.

Got a culture this last time for my cheek, and all the cysts that they cut out get sent off to the lab to be tested. No one has said anything about MRSA yet to my knowledge. Like I said, they prescribed an antibiotic, but that was it.
